Local Getaway: 3 B.C. Farm Stays for a Spring Refresh

Soak up the spring warmth and fresh blooms at these farm stays

The sun is shining, and the cherry blossoms have come and gone. Take some time to enjoy the remaining spring energy before summer comes along. Whether you are visiting B.C. or planning a staycation, these farm stays are a great way to experience spring in the province. Sip your morning coffee with some friendly cows in the backyard, or take a midday nap with goats roaming just outside.

1. Cedar Geodome

Location: Sechelt, British Columbia

The breakdown: $373 per night plus fees (price fluctuates); sleeps four

The details: The epitome of cute and quaint, this dome stay is located in the middle of an old growth forest on B.C.’s Sunshine Coast. This open-concept living space lets in plenty of natural springtime light, and offers great views of the surrounding forests. It’s equipped with a fully stocked kitchenette, a shower, a bathroom and a king-sized loft. Sip your morning coffee on the private deck, or prepare a BBQ dinner with the provided grill. There is also a shared wood-burning hot tub, a cedar barrel sauna and an outdoor shower available for you to fully unwind. 

This stay is situated on a 6.5-acre private farm, but it’s still convenient to explore other areas. The stay is only 20 minutes from the Langdale Ferry Terminal, 15 minutes to Gibsons, 10 minutes to Sechelt and five minutes away from Roberts Creek and Davis Bay Beach. Note that you’re not permitted to bring your fur babies because of the farm animals on the premises.

2. Wild Roots Farm Guesthouse

Location: Columbia-Shuswap, British Columbia

The details: This modern getaway was built by the hosts themselves using lumber cut from their property. This passion project is a bright, 600-square-foot open-concept studio with expansive windows, a fully equipped kitchenette and a bathroom. The space houses a queen-sized bed, a single bed and a sofa bed, so there’s plenty of room for a small family or group of friends. There are rabbits, chickens, sheep and highland cows on the farm that guests are welcome to visit. You can’t enter the rabbit enclosure, but you can feed them apples, lettuce or carrots. Bring the little ones to this stay, and they are sure to have a great time with the furry friends.

3. The Nest Cabin

Location: Powell River, British Columbia

The breakdown: $230 per night plus fees (two-night minimum stay, price fluctuates); sleeps two

The details: This rustic cabin combines privacy with functionality in its cozy, open living space. It’s tucked away amongst the trees at the back of the main property and onto the popular Duck Lake mountain biking trail system. This cabin has everything you’ll need for a weekend getaway–a small kitchenette, a queen-sized bed, a bar table dining area with panoramic windows and a bathroom. You can fully open the window by the bar table to take in the scents and scenes of the greenery right outside. Enjoy a coffee at the bar in the morning and watch the birds chirp outside, or sip on your nightcap as you stargaze. This stay also includes an outdoor shower and a relaxing jacuzzi, as well as goat sightings.
