8 Activities Around B.C. to Fill Your Spring Break Itinerary

With Spring Break underway, here are a few ways to keep the kids busy

Didn’t book camp this Spring Break? If you’re fielding “I’m boreds” while the kids are home for the next two weeks, you’ve come to the right place. We’ve put together a list of activities around B.C. to fill the last-minute gaps in your Spring Break itinerary.

1. Science World

Keep the interactive learning going with a visit to Science World this Spring Break. The science museum is embracing nature this spring, opening the Ken Spencer Science Park for the season, with 35,000 square feet of immersive activities to connect visitors with sustainability. Also in nature, the Astronaut Gardening workshop on Saturday, March 21 (1 a.m. and 2 p.m.) will unpack how astronauts grow food in space, and eventually on Mars. Participants will also get to build and take home science experiments, including growing space tomatoes (in addition to admission, tickets are $8.45 for members, $9.95 for the public).

Plus, Spring Break also means the last few weeks of the Artemis Space Adventure with LEGO® Bricks exhibit (until April 6), including large LEGO® sculptures, hands-on engineering challenges and collaborative creative workshops.

2. Britannia Mine Museum

Britannia Mine Museum

Britannia Mine Museum has a lineup of family-friendly activities planned all Spring Break long for kids to learn through hands-on exploration.

From now until March 29, the museum will be running “Live in the Lab: Secret Identities,” an interpreter-led STEAM learning session where guests can experiment to identify the minerals extracted from the mountains through streak testing, hardness comparisons and safe acid reactions (Monday to Friday, between 1 and 4 p.m.).

Guests can also look back at the museum’s history with the “Step Back in Time” social history series, with one on Mount Sheer (1:30 p.m. daily) and another on what it was life was like working at Britannia Mine before road and rail (3:30 p.m. daily).

3. Monster Jam

For a thrilling way to spend the last weekend of Spring Break, Monster Jam is bringing the Arena Championship Series West battle to the PNE’s Pacific Coliseum on March 27 to 29. With four shows, eight drivers are set to compete in massive, 12,000-pound trucks, complete with stunts, speed and air time. The winner will advance to the Monster Jam World Finals in Salt Lake City.

4. Europa Super Circus

The circus is coming to Saanich this Spring Break. As the Europa Super Circus makes its way around B.C. (with upcoming stops in Surrey and Nanaimo), the exciting show will land in Saanich from March 20 to 29 at the Saanich Fairgrounds. From tight-wire acrobats, flying aerialists, clowns and roller skaters, the Europa Super Circus is a big top experience that will add some wonder and laughter to Spring Break.

5. Vancouver Aquarium

Vancouver Aquarium‘s Spring Break programming lets guests come face-to-face with their favourite sea creatures—over 65,000 animals, to be exact—including moon jellyfish, axolotls and sea lions. With new exhibits like the Realm of Dragons, interactive experiences and a 4D show, Canada’s largest aquarium promises to make Spring Break a splash. Plus, the aquarium is extending its hours to 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. through Sunday, March 29.

6. Hoppy Heights at Capilano Suspension Bridge

Hop into the Easter spirit a bit early this year with the Capilano Suspension Bridge’s spring theme, Hoppy Heights. From March 14 to April 6, the 450-foot suspension bridge in North Vancouver has a lineup of Easter-themed activities, seasonal photo spots and spring menu items.

Of course, no Easter theme is complete without some egg-citing sweet surprises on top of the park’s attractions—kids can complete Echo Eagle’s Eggsploration for the chance to win a chocolate treat, participate in a colouring contest and more. The park is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with a free shuttle service from Canada Place in Vancouver.

7. Off the Eaten Track’s Ultimate Kid Cuisine Crawl

Victoria food tour company Off the Eaten Track is running the Ultimate Kid Cuisine Crawl this Spring Break until April 6. The two-hour walking tour will hit five spots around Victoria for some kid-favourite snacks, including pizza, popcorn and candy. The tour covers approximately 1.4 kilometres of walking, and runs even if it rains. Off the Eaten Track has also partnered with the Royal BC Museum to offer participants free same-day admission after the tour, so guests can visit the woolly mammoth exhibit.

8. Burnaby Village Museum

Guests get in for free at the Burnaby Village Museum this Spring Break, from March 16 to 27. The 10-acre, open-air site showcases historical buildings along with educational and interactive exhibits. With special activities including quilting, mahjong and archeology, along with daily activities like coffee grinding and table tennis, the Burnaby Village Museum has lots going on to stay busy this Spring Break. The site is open daily from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with last entry at 4 p.m.
