We uncover the most picturesque and luxury Airbnb stays beautiful British Columbia has to offer
As the province begins to re-open and interprovincial travel becomes a reality again, we’re all chomping at the bit for a little adventure. Whether it’s a night away from the city or a week-long trip catching up with family and friends, take a well-deserved break and get excited about exploring again…
Location: The Legendary Wildwood Cabins, Bowen Island
The details: $149 and up per night depending on dates, sleeps two (but can accommodate more if desired)
The amenities: Full disclosure: I spent a weekend at Wildwood Cabins a few days before the world shut down in 2020, so I can guarantee first-hand this is a true gem. Hidden among evergreens, the locale boasts a truly stunning setting. The surrounding views alone make booking a stay immediately a worthwhile endeavour. Five charming, rustic, private log and timber cabins are nestled under a forest canopy, all updated with industrial and reclaimed features. Cabins 1, 2 and 4 are detailed online, and each is equipped with a functional kitchen, including fridge, gas stove and toaster oven, along with a full bathroom, queen bed, indoor fireplace, wifi and dedicated workspace, patio or balcony and BBQ grill. Find fresh ground coffee and eggs (when the local chickens cooperate) provided by your wonderful host, Reg, to make your stay as comfortable as possible. With direct access to trails from all cabins, follow the path along the back of the property and—in just five minutes—you’ll be met with views that overlook both the treetops and the ocean, providing the perfect spot to catch the sunset. Still not convinced? All cabins are dog-friendly, plus a yoga studio is available on-site as is an authentic wood-burning sauna. These cozy cabins make the ideal weekend hideaway, with the short 20-minute crossing from Horseshoe Bay meaning it’s truly accessible to all.
Activities in the area: Whether you arrive with or without a car, Bowen Island is easy to navigate and offers plenty to do. Located on the marina pier, head to Branch on Bowen for scoops of acclaimed Earnest ice cream and handmade tacos, or browse the local vendors, boutiques and gift shops. Visit the artisan village to grab brunch or baked goods from Artisan Eats Bakery and Cafe. Looking to work up a sweat? From gentle forest walks to mountain peaks, Bowen Island has it all. The Killarney Lake loop trail is an easy 9 kilometres, with beautiful views across the water. If you’re up for a challenge, Mount Gardner is Bowen’s tallest mountain, offering panoramic views south to Vancouver, with the Sunshine Coast to the north and Vancouver Island to the west.
