We take you on a tour of Versace's new home store in Vancouver
Look out, Medusa’s about: The Versace Home’s well-known mythological motif is front and centre at its new store in Gastown – Canada’s first free-standing one dedicated solely to homeware.
With our friends at Old Faithful and The Block for company, the 3,000-square-foot West Cordova store is dripping with gold-plated, high-octane luxury from the Milan-based company.
The high-ceilinged, white-centric space – which opened October 24 – is separated into vignettes fit for the most opulent of mansions: Slip into the boudoir, feast on the dining room, sink deep into the sitting rooms…
From its emblematic plates and glasses to beds and sofas, we pick our top-five lust-haves. (As for prices? Well, these are available only in-store.)
Inspired by the heaven-in-the-detail that punctuates Versace’s fashion such as its coveted Palazzo bag, the smart Via Gesù sofa perfectly dovetails fashion and design. Sculptural 3-D gold metal Medusa symbols bookend the piece, which was part of the range launched at Salone del Mobile 2014 in Milan. Upholstered in leather or nubuck, the arms are loaded with secret shelves. Couch surfers? Don’t even think about it.
Versace Home gives the humble cushion a serious upgrade. Swoon over the design powerhouse’s patterns including Le Vase Baroque and the neoclassical Greek key fret. As its corporate profile says of its collection, it’s about achieving the “‘now’ mood” through a “light and pervasive flavour of neoclassical tradition combined with an ultra-modern approach.” Welcome to classy chic.
Switch on to the Medusa table lamp – and its prime Medusa motif showpiece. Stunningly created in marble and metal, this has the wow factor in truckloads. Look no further for a coveted heirloom.
For those lucky enough to have dined off Versace plates at The Curator’s Table at the Fairmont Pacific Rim, you’ll know you never forget eating from such weapons-grade pieces of decor. Picture similarly grand mythological feasts as you pick up these Rosenthal Versace Gala Prestige goblets and glasses complete with Medusa. Sip sip hooray!
Dive into this wooden Versace Signature bed padded with Polyurethane and full-grain cream leather. Cleverly adorned with a gold metal Signature medallion on shiny leather stripes, to boot, little wonder one was rumoured to have been sold already on the late October preview night.
