A preview party at Park Royal provides a glimpse into this year's Vancouver Home & Design Show, running October 11th to 14th at BC Place Stadium
Celebrity stylist Janette Ewen will be a featured speaker at this year’s Vancouver Home & Design Show
I stopped by Park Royal Shopping Centre last week for the Vancouver Home & Design Show preview party to get the inside track on this fall’s hottest styles, designs, renos and cooking trends. This year’s preview was a bit different, in that it was located in the middle of Park Royal’s common area and involved media, partners, exhibitors and the general public.
Park Royal retailers joined in the fun by contributing furniture and accessories for Design Through the Decades, a display celebrating 100 years of fashion and home decor. The exhibit was put together by celebrity stylist Janette Ewen, who will also be a speaker on the HGTV main stage at the Vancouver Home & Design Show from October 11th to 14th at BC Place Stadium.
The exhibit, which will also be available at the October show, featured six vignettes each based on a specific time period. My two favourites were The Great Gatsby and Love & War 1939 – 1945. I loved the lace, pearls and crystal lighting featured in The Great Gatsby display, as it so brilliantly captured the Art Deco look that is popular right now. (Check out the November/December issue of BC Home & Garden for a closer look at the Art Deco trend.) The World War II inspired display, from the dainty teacups to pillows with butterfly motifs, was another winner.
The Vancouver Home & Design Show has been a staple in consumers’ calendars since 1983, attracting more than 40,000 visitors every fall. The show features exhibits, high-profile industry personalities and the latest home and lifestyle trends.
This year’s event will feature talks by Bryan Baeumler from HGTV’s Leave It To Bryan, ubiquitous interior designer Jillian Harris of The Bachelorette fame, interior designer Alykhan Velji and colour expert Maria Killam.
Other highlights include a pop-up edition of Portobello West, Vancouver’s fashion and art market featuring emerging talent. Inspired by the London market of the same name, Portobello West will offer free 10-minute consultations with interior designer Christine Friend of Friendly Decorator.
