Get a sneak peek at what the 2014 Vancouver Home + Design Show has in store for you this year
Designers, decorators and industry folks from every corner of the city flocked to Urban Barn’s South Granville location on Wednesday, June 18 for an exclusive preview of this year’s Vancouver Home + Design Show, running October 16 to 19 at BC Place. Click through to see some of the most exciting events for 2014.
Bryan “the contract king” Baeumler will be in the house and headlining on the Metrie Main Stage, bringing with him years of HGTV experience from the set of his show Leave it to Bryan. Also making appearances will be the local design duo Jennifer Scott and Megan Baker of A Good Chick to Know, and Vancouver’s Friendly Decorator, Christine Friend (find Friend’s latest trend tips in the June/July issue of BCLiving magazine on newsstands now).
Back by popular demand, round two of Urban Barn’s Next Top Designer challenge will see three local up-and-coming designers battle head to head (to head), with each competitor getting $5,000 of Urban Barn furniture and accessories to outfit a 150 sq.-ft. space in their winning vision.
Aside from bragging rights, each designer is vying for a $1,000 Urban Barn shopping spree and a guaranteed booth at next year’s Vancouver Home + Design Show. Urban Barn’s creative director Sebastian Fauteux can’t wait to see what looks the designers will create this year.
“It’s always interesting to see with what I buy, and the visions that I have, what they come up with,” says Fauteux.
After last year’s phenomenal response, the creative director is excited to once again have the winning design space decided by public vote – a ballot that could win one lucky visitor a $5,000 Urban Barn gift card.
Do you want to be Urban Barn’s Next Top Designer? There’s still time to enter, head to their website by July 18 to register.
Local media personalities, designers and artists take on the chair in this year’s edition of the Ultimate Upcycling Challenge: ChairLIFT.
A fan favourite, this DIY showdown sees competitors upcycle a pre-loved chair from Habitat for Humanity Greater Vancouver’s ReStore and put it up for silent auction at the show. Not only does the challenge see new life for old materials, 100 per cent of the proceeds will go to the charity.
The heat is on as three home cooks, each partnered with a local top chef, take turns competing in a race against time to craft the perfect entrée and dessert.
Winning has never tasted so good for these aspiring culinary stars, as the last chef standing will take home $7,500 worth of Samsung Home Appliances for their own kitchen.
There’s DIY, and then there’s life hacks. Announced yesterday, Vancouver Home +Design Show is being quite secretive about revealing all the details of this special feature; however, it’s supposed to dazzle onlookers with its “clever tricks, tactics and shortcuts” to keep your life organized on the cheap.”
