1. Vancouver Zombie Walk – Saturday, August 26

Helping to cement the feeling that the end of days is nigh, the Vancouver Zombie Walk shuffles its way from the Vancouver Art Gallery to English Bay this weekend. Put on your most gruesome costume and join the living dead for a scary stroll.

2. Grease Sing-a-Long – Saturday, August 26

If you’ve got chills and they’re multiplying, head to the Rio for a vocal celebration of this classic ’70s musical about high-school life in the ’50s starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton John. All ages are welcome to dress up for the costume contest and to sing along to the iconic hits.

3. Fraser Valley Indie Market – Saturday, August 26

It’s Coquitlam’s turn to host an Indie Market where you can eat and shop local while enjoying live musicians and DJs, food trucks, local craft alcohol and yard games. Admission is by donation and proceeds go towards helping the Salvation Army B.C.’s wildfire relief fund.

4. Kitsilano Clothes Swap – Saturday, August 26

Clean out your closet and take part in clothing app FOLD’s huge fashion swap this weekend. Proceeds will be given to charities doing important humanitarian work in the garment industry, and leftover clothes will be donated to local charities. Women’s, men’s and children’s clothing will be available.

5. Pink Salmon Festival – Sunday, August 27

Music, interactive storytelling and family-friendly activities celebrate the most sustainable salmon at the Pacific Salmon Foundation’s fifth biennial Pink Salmon Festival. Taste pink salmon samplings prepared by well-known executive chefs and try some barbeque. All proceeds support wild salmon conservation in British Columbia.

6. Out of Concealment – Sunday, August 27

Out of Concealment: Female Supernatural Beings of Haida Gwaii is a new book profiling female supernatural beings from Haida origin stories. It forms part of a multimedia installation by Haida activist and performing artist Terri-Lynn Williams-Davidson, which includes the book; a CD and live performances of contemporary Haida songs; and an exhibition of photo montages, currently on display at the Haida Gwaii Museum until December 31.

7. Pet-a-Palooza – Sunday, August 27

Take your four-legged friend(s) to Yaletown for Pet-a-Palooza, a day of pet-focused fun with a puppy stampede, wiener dog races and the running of the bull(dog)s. Local pet food companies and shops will have treats and products on offer along Mainland Street.

8. Summer Nights 2017 – Thursday, August 31

Pick up pre-loved and brand name clothing at consignment store Front & Company’s Summer Nights shopping event, which will feature local businesses Hoochy’ Booch Kombucha and Say Hello Sweets (non-dairy ice cream), as well as the chance to win 40 per cent off your purchase.

9. Waterfront Cinema: Sound of Music – Thursday, August 31

The hills, and Canada Place, will be alive with the Sound of Music when the iconic musical is shown on an inflatable screen at the north point of Canada Place. Catch the last free movie under the stars for the season. Bring a blanket or lawn chair to enjoy the entertainment.

10. Guns N’ Roses – Friday, September 1

Take that Sweet Child O’ Mine down to the Paradise City for a heavy metal extravaganza with Guns N’ Roses when they sing Welcome to the Jungle and have fun Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door at BC Place for their Not in this Lifetime Tour.
