The three ingredients for a wicked summer night: fresh air, popcorn, and a free movie
Is there anything better than catching a classic flick as the sun sets on a warm summer night?
If you answered no, you’re in luck. BC is brimming with outdoor movie showings this season, and it’s all free.
Companies such as Fresh Air Cinema, Chevron and Scotiabank are showing free-of-charge outdoor movies across the province. The best part of the deal? You don’t have to hide your store-bought candy when you arrive.

The Summer of FREE is a Canada-wide movie tour presented by Scotiabank. For a bit of added fun, the movie shown will be decided by popular vote, so if you’re itching to watch a favourite on the big screen, make sure you have your say. Each location has been assigned a specific movie theme to reflect the venue.
Summer of FREE comes to B.C. on:
The first 500 entrants will receive complimentary popcorn and water, and there will be a VIP section for the first 100 Scotiabank SCENE Debit and VISA cardholders who show their cards upon entry.
For a more classic drive-in experience, there’s always the Twilight Drive-In in Langley, which is Metro Vancouver’s only drive-in movie theatre, and it’s open rain or shine. These movies aren’t going to be free, but like at many venues, there are always cheap Tuesdays.
And if you live a little – OK a lot – further from the Lower Mainland, the Starlight Drive-In in Enderby is open every night.
