Eco Fashion Week bans bottled water, Gisele designs SIGG bottle

Eyebrows lifted at Eco Fashion Week Vancouver’s opening bash Monday (at the AVEDA Institute in Gastown) when libations appeared in plastic cups, but minds were put to ease when it was announced that each cup was crafted from corn and 100 percent compostable under commercial composting conditions in 45-60 days.

The entire week was “plastic bottle free,” many thanks to supermodel and environmentalist Gisele Bündchen, who collaborated with SIGG and EFWV to design attractive BPA-free bottles that can be tossed into the recycling bin at the end of their long lives. Gisele was named Goodwill Environmental Ambassador for the United Nations Environment program in September 2009.

The official SIGG/EFWV bottle was available for VIP attendees at Creekside Community Centre facility where most of the week’s events were held. The LEED-certified Creekside Community Centre is located in Vancouver’s sustainable Olympic Village.
