From spine-chilling ghost stories to epic family fun, Vernon has the Halloween thrills you can't afford to miss.
When it comes to spine-tingling thrills and Halloween fun for the whole family, there’s only one place to haunt this October: Vernon! With ghostly adventures, eerie escapades and a dash of mischievous magic, this charming city in the Okanagan promises the ultimate fright fest for the whole family.
Vernon’s history is laced with ghostly tales, and none is more poignant than that of little Lonnie Mohr. Born in 1886 in Ontario, her family moved to Vernon in 1893. Tragically, a routine tooth extraction turned fatal, claiming her life at just seven years old. Though laid to rest in Pioneer Park Cemetery, local legend has it that Lonnie’s spirit lingers in her former home, which later became a dental office.
If that’s a little too “close to the bone,” fear not, friendly ghouls! Vernon has plenty of fun events that will delight the whole family. From festive pumpkin patches and lively costume parades to enchanting fall fairs filled with games and treats, there’s lighthearted Halloween magic waiting to be discovered.
Here are just some spooktacular events to check out in Vernon this fall:
October 23 – 26
Step into the eerie enchantment of Vernon at the Caetani Haunted Halloween Tours, where the Caetani Centre—a 125-year-old heritage house—whispers tales of intrigue and spectral secrets. These guided theatrical tours invite you to explore the shadowy lives of Duke Leone Caetani and his ethereal family, who fled Fascism in Italy. After Leone’s untimely death in 1935, his grieving wife Ofelia confined herself within the estate’s walls until her passing 25 years later. Yet, amidst the sorrow, Halloween shimmered with magic for their daughter Sveva, who delighted in sharing imported European treats with neighbourhood children. Join this captivating tour to unravel their tragic history while witnessing ghostly occurrences that have enchanted all who have walked the haunted halls.
Various dates in October
For 20 years, Ghost Tours of Vernon has captivated thrill-seekers with chilling tales of the macabre, guiding over 10,000 souls through the town’s haunted history. This fall, new hosts Sir Harrison Robert Coe III and Lady Amelia Antonia Serafina Sirianni will lead brave adventurers on a spine-tingling journey into the supernatural. No reservations needed—just cash, warm clothing and a spirit of adventure!
