Indulge in a romantic tête-à-tête or a fun family hideaway at these beautifully designed cabins, all less than four hours by car from Vancouver
Winter is here, and a touch of cabin fever (of the right kind) might just be the thing to rejuvenate weary souls and minds. Pay no attention to the shorter daylight hours—after all, time stands still in these rustic cabin retreats, which offer everything from relaxing hot-tub soaks and invigorating yoga classes to breathtaking mountain views.
Tucked away on Galiano Island lies a lovingly restored collection of five iconic cedar Panabode cabins. Built around 1969, owner Jesse Keefer and team—including Brent Freedman from famed multidisciplinary studio Gamla Design and local craftsman John Parfitt—spent two years reconstructing and refurbishing them. The cabins, available in one-bedroom and two-bedroom configurations, boast a cozy-meets-modern vibe: think large window panes, wood-panelled walls, sleek white bathtubs and tasteful lighting by Vancouver-based contemporary design firm Bocci Design. The best part? They’re less than three hours from Vancouver by car and ferry.Rates start at $300 per night
Couples looking for a dreamy winter getaway will dig this secluded one-bedroom cabin located 45 minutes from Vancouver. With no road access, guests will have to take a 15-minute boat ride (or a 5 km-long paddle) from Deep Cove in North Vancouver. The property has been in the Friesen family for over 20 years and has its own private beach cove and dock. In our view, it’s the perfect place to unwind and curl up at the fireplace with a book in hand, or watch the colours of the sky over Indian Arm change during sunset.Rates start at $153 per night
Nothing beats getting a digital detox at this lovely three-bedroom cabin in Squamish, B.C. The entire space is off-the-grid, which means that you’ll be WiFi-free, and only renewable resources are used here to reduce the cabin’s carbon footprint. Accommodating up to four guests, the cabin offers a stunning panoramic view of the Tantalus mountain range and glaciers. Enjoy breakfast on the veranda, soothe your spirits in an outdoor hot tub (clothing optional), or take a slow walk amidst gorgeous, moss-covered trees. Owners Warren and Rochelle Brubacher also make their own soaps for guests, and with your every need catered to here, expect this to feel like your home away from home, requiring only an hour’s drive from Vancouver.Rates start at $260 per night
These A-frame cabins are some of the most Instagram-worthy ones we’ve come across—and they’re only three-and-a-half hours away from Vancouver by car. Nestled in the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest in Seattle, the three cabins comfortably cater to four to five guests each, and are kitted out with gas fireplaces, board games, Netflix and a fully stocked kitchen under its eaves. Two of them in particular—Tye Haus and Sky Haus—are also furnished with an outdoor hot tub on their decks. Hot tip: These get booked really quickly, so don’t hesitate.Rates start at $246 per night
A one-and-a-half-hour-long car and ferry ride out of Vancouver takes you this cluster of four log-frame one-bedroom cabins hidden amongst dense forest on Bowen Island. Their interiors are industrial chic, with vintage cast-iron cookware, antique furniture and flannel bedding on hand. Get freshly laid eggs for breakfast every morning, and keep your eyes peeled for friendly visitors like deer, woodpeckers and the resident barn owl. Yoga enthusiasts will also appreciate having easy access to a lyengar yoga studio here, which was constructed from reclaimed timbers and the remains of a collapsed water tower.Rates start at $89 per night
