Sangre de Fruta

The best way to sum up Sangre de Fruta’s approach to skincare: Self-care with a capital S. The Bowen Island-based apothecary creates tonics and tinctures that draw inspiration from ancient beauty regimens, like Cleopatra, who applied oils and butters to nourish both the skin and senses. The range of products are spiked with essential oils and botanicals, and include stalwarts like the Botanical tonic that is infused with a probiotic and can be used on the face, body and even linens. Their line of skincare products—face washes, creams, oils and serums—come in indulgent scents like psyche flower or neroli and myrrh.

Skwálwen Botanicals

All the products by Indigenous-owned Skwálwen are infused with Squamish plant knowledge and sacred botanicals. The result is potent skincare that is powered by plants, all wrapped up in sustainable packaging. Ingredients like purifying cranberry and invigorating stinging nettle are found in the creams, cleansers, serums and masks. Those with sensitive skin may want to start with the Kalkáy Wild Rose line, which includes the brand-new Kalkáy Wild Rose firming face cream that is packed with antioxidants and hydrating hyaluronic acid to smooth skin.

Om Organics

Your skin is unique, just like you. The folks at Invermere-based Om Organics celebrate that diversity with a robust range of products for face and body. Cleanse, tone, moisturize and target problem areas with plant-based formulas that are free from fillers, parabens and sulfates, but packed with hard-working botanicals. The Youth Infusion hydrating face elixir has gotu kola, an herb that boosts collagen and fights signs of aging, while the Adaptogen + Copper Peptide Multitasking Radiance mask uses ingredients like reishi mushroom to deliver glass skin and, according to a reviewer, a “very pleasant tingle.”

Kid Sister

For all those who spent their childhood trying to keep up, there’s beauty brand Kid Sister. The Vancouver-based brand was founded by fellow younger sibling Max, who wanted products that suit a busy lifestyle—and anyone constantly on the move. The result is a small-but-mighty lineup of products and a gua sha tool. The Afterglow face mask has fruit enzymes, exfoliating lactic acid and soothing fermented oat extract, and only takes five to 10 minutes. Follow that up with nutrient-rich Super Ego face oil and a quick gua sha and your baby-soft skin is ready to chase the day.

Pink House

Once the childhood home of sisters Tegan and Lindsay, Pink House is now the duo’s beauty brand that specializes in all-natural, small-batch products. Fed up with trying to track down safe products for their mother Karen, newly diagnosed with cancer, they started making their own. Sadly, Karen passed away in 2015, but the legacy lives on with the brand’s natural, toxin-free offerings. Their motto is products that do no harm—to the point they’re good enough to eat. The robust lineup includes the all-in-one Face Fix serum that tackles wrinkles, blemishes, dark spots and scars, and even has UV protection; and the Raspberry face lotion for sensitive skin.

Luna Nectar

Vancouver-based Luna Nectar is best known for their hair- and lash-growth serums—so definitely check those out—but don’t let that keep you from trying the skincare, too. All the products are natural, vegan and cruelty-free, and designed for a minimalist routine, meaning they’re easy to use and layer. The elegant skincare line includes the Neptune Blur & Hydrate hyaluronic acid serum that moisturizes and protects with antioxidant botanicals, and the Futurize Botanical Retinol Alternative Boosting serum with bakuchiol, a plant-based alternative to retinol. Or get both, plus the Sphinx bath and body oil, with the Skin Concentrate trio kit.

Collage

From its home base in the Okanagan, Collage is working to upend ideas about the beauty industry—and even ideas about what beautiful is. Their holistic approach to skincare encourages a whole body (and mind) approach, and is a “pro-aging.” Regardless of what decade you’re in, brighten, hydrate and nourish your skin with natural, hardworking ingredients like green tea and willow bark. Their routine consists of the Canvas serum to gently exfoliate, followed by the Composition gel to moisturize and balance skin, and finally the Gesso balm that adds extra hydration and encourages cell turnover.

Obakki

Through partnerships with artisans worldwide, Obakki occupies the part of the Venn diagram where fashion and compassion meet. The result is exquisitely crafted small-batch goods, an ethos that has trickled down into their lineup of skincare. With pure, natural ingredients sourced from women-led cooperatives in Africa, the skincare products are made with fewer ingredients, and can be layered and personalized. Like the  100% Prickly Pear organic facial oil, which brightens and hydrates through vitamin E and fatty acids, and offers antimicrobial properties. Use before one of the shea butter–infused lotions or after a revitalizing sugar scrub.
