Vancouver media personality and style expert Susie Wall's mission with her new home was to enlist design practices that are as easy on the eye as they are on the planet
When Susie Wall recently purchased her new home, it came newly renovated with beautiful finishings and was pretty much move-in ready. The principle closet and bathroom however, had cabinetry with a wood finish that did not completely meet Susie’s light-filled, airy aesthetic. Rather then tear out the high-quality cabinetry, Susie enlisted Vancouver start-up Kitra to give them a makeover.
Kitra offers a genius cabinet refinishing fix, that’s a win-win for the planet and the pocketbook. Kitra shook up the industry in 2017 when they pioneered a premier refinishing service using world-class materials, proprietary equipment and innovative techniques. Their specialized coating and lacquer system is the first of its kind to flawlessly refinish cabinetry, using environmentally friendly, non-toxic lacquer. Kitra’s product has passed rigorous testing to ensure enhanced durability, improved air quality, the lowest environmental impact and the elimination of odours. What’s more, Kitra is proud that their process allows a cabinetry’s lifespan to be extended beyond the typical 15 to 20 years before it ends up in a landfill.
The process itself was relatively painless, says Susie. It was all over in less than two weeks, and I am completely in love with the finished product. It’s a phenomenal concept. I was really pleased that the lacquered finish is non-toxic, and non-off gassing meant it was safe immediately for my family to be around. The barn door on my bathroom had extensive sun damage, so Kitra gave it some extra love to bring it back to its former glory. The lacquer on the cabinetry instantly changed the space, making it look more linear and contemporary.
