Vancouver startup to give more than $150,000 worth of laundry detergent to those in need

Local startup to give more than $150,000 worth of laundry detergent to those in need

Vancouver’s Tru Earth has just announced that they have been matching customer purchases with donations since March 16, 2020.

Tru Earth provides consumers with eco-friendly laundry detergent strips that are manufactured in Canada. Each strip is pre-measured and dissolves in your laundry in both cold and hot water. Tru Earth completely eliminates heavy laundry jugs and its ultra-concentrated formula has 94 percent less transportation pollution when compared to traditional detergents.

To date, Tru Earth has matched 230,000 loads ($150,000 in retail value) worth of its laundry detergent strips, and has starting to distribute them to hospitals, food banks and shelters across North America to support those in need during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tru Earth hopes to bring their total to 500,000 ($311,000 in retail) loads donated by the end of April 2020.

To date, Tru Earth has provided laundry strip donations to:

  • Vancouver General Hospital
  • Outflow Men’s Shelter
  • Crossroads For Women Inc.
  • Union Gospel Mission
  • The Guesthouse Shelter
  • Red Door Family Shelter
  • And Tru Earth is currently waiting for replies from many more shelters and hospitals, including Food Banks Canada.

With most of the world social distancing, it is crucial to frequently wash our clothes. It is even more important for front-line workers and those working in essential services where there is more human-to-human exposure. Due to these increased laundry needs, many organizations are in dire need of cleaning supplies like laundry detergent.

“One of Tru Earth’s core values is that consistent small actions can lead to big change in the world. For us, this is just another small way we can contribute to making the world a better place,” says co-founder Ryan McKenzie.

Tru Earth plans on continuing their pursuit to give back, but they need help connecting with organizations in need.

“We have been reaching out to hospitals and shelters across North America, but could really use the public’s help. We need help connecting with the right individuals inside these organizations,” says co-founder Brad Liski.
