Disney on Ice Returns to Vancouver This Winter

The Magic in the Stars tour will be in Vancouver at the Pacific Coliseum for eight shows only from November 27 to December 1, 2024.

When you feel like you were born to skate, it’s pretty hard to beat a full-time job on the ice. Disney on Ice Canadian principal skater, Matthew King,  has made his childhood dream a reality for nearly two decades.

“I wanted to work for Disney all my life,” says the veteran skater from Watford, Ontario. “I am over the moon that I get to portray Buzz  in this show.”

King says that it’s been a truly fun journey playing Buzz Lightyear —the heroic space ranger character known for Toy Story and spinoffs—in the upcoming debut of Disney on Ice’s Magic in the Stars tour. The tour will be in Vancouver at the Pacific Coliseum for eight shows only from November 27 to December 1.

Like any true Canadian, King began skating as a hockey player.

“I started playing hockey first, and to improve my skating skills my mom put me into figure skating,” says the 42-year-old.  “I just sort of got better at figure skating than hockey. I was tiny when I was younger, so hockey wasn’t really in the cards.”

King skated competitively until he was 23, competing in the Canadian Nationals nine times. His first professional skating opportunity was performing on cruise ships, something he did for eight years.

“I just want to entertain people, especially little kids who watch in wonder with big smiles on their faces,” says King.

Disney on Ice’s Magic in the Stars celebrates more than a century of Disney magic. This incredible show full of aerial acrobatics, phenomenal skating skills and tons of familiar faces encourages everyone to share their unique stories and shine bright like the stars of the night sky.
