Canna ‘Pretoria’

This native of the tropics adapts to extremes of soil moisture, from hot, dry Mediterranean settings to the more riparian and aquatic environs of the garden pond.

“Canna ‘Pretoria’ is an excellent feature or specimen plant,” says Stuart Bronson of Paridon Horticultural in Delta. While the melon-coloured flowers are beautiful and long-lasting, it’s the foliage that makes this such a valuable plant. With its golden-yellow and apple-green striped leaves edged with red, canna makes a bold statement, whether in a border, a terrace tub or an arrangement of cut flowers. It grows best in full sun with its toes in water.
