Peridot Decorative Homewear is a hidden gem in South Granville.
Chandeliers and mirrored decor visible from Peridot Decorative Homewear’s storefront, reflect the holidays.
Peridot decorative homewear is a tiny Aladdin’s cave of jeweled treasures hidden on a side street in tony south granville.
Its Parisian vibe elicits such a long “ohhhhh” as I gaze entranced at the ceiling of swagged antique gold mercury pendants and what appears to be glass bubbles of cappuccino froth lit from within, I almost stumble into an eclectic mix of chairs and pedestal table!
“We think of lighting as the jewelry of a home,” says owner Leah Balderson, “and we encourage people to be a little adventurous when selecting lamps and chandeliers to add drama to a specific space.”
Peridot’s sand and white floors and walls are the perfect neutral palette on which to showcase colour and sparkle. What doesn’t emit light in Peridot, often reflects it to create subtly glam accent pieces: Crystal embellished linen pillows, some with intricate diamond mirrors add a splash of glitz to a sofa; a silver mirrored art deco-inspired bar cart is perfect for holiday entertaining. Luminous mother-of-pearl inlaid wall mirrors reflect lustrous shell chandeliers with dangling tendrils. Metallic cracked patina vessels can be grouped on a mantle or tablescape. Even casual hand-carved wooden side tables are inlaid with glittery crushed aqua glass submerged in resin.
Tucked off a side street in South Granville, Peridot Decorative homewear specializes in furniture and accessories with reflective surfaces.
Upstairs, Balderson has created a softly lit boudoir setting in which beveled mirrored vanities and comforters woven with metallic threads, catch the light. “The trick is to choose lighting and metallic accessories carefully and consider the space they will be placed in, advises Balderson. “We work closely with our customers to offer design advice and are much more hands-on than regular retailers.”
Keep in mind that when it comes to decorating with all things that sparkle –the old adage that ‘less is more ‘applies. That way you won’t even be tempted to put things away after the Holiday season!
