From sailing to rock climbing, there are tons of active and fun camps for your kids this summer
Whether it’s a trek through the breathtaking wilderness, or a water-side adventure along the cool city coastline, B.C.’s spectacular landscape is the perfect backdrop for a day of heart-pumping adventure outdoors. For adventurous kids whose activities of choice are biking, running, sailing, hiking or climbing, these very B.C. summer camps will satisfy their nature-loving appetites while they enjoy the rugged outdoors of our beautiful province.
Click through for five West Coast-style summer camps for kids who love to play outside…
Mountain biking is a challenging and exciting sport, dominating the trails of B.C.’s mountains. Whether your kids are beginner bikers or enthusiastic pedal-pushers, they’ll love the mountain biking camps offered by Pedalheads.
Fit for kids aged 4-15, these biking camps are a great way to develop and sharpen mountain-biking skills, allowing kids to navigate, and eventually master the rustic trails of B.C.’s magnificent terrain.
Kids not only learn how to follow their instructors down the trails as a group, but they receive personalized instruction from trained teachers, who guide them through specific mountain biking skills in a safe and fun environment. B.C. camps are available in both Burnaby and North Vancouver.
B.C. is bursting with runners who love to jog along the seawall or sprint up the trails. Sole Girls offers a series of running camps that focus on making running fun while empowering pre-teen girls through lessons in kindness, compassion and confidence.
Girls aged 8-12 learn that physical activity can be a fun and rewarding experience, and learn how to develop a positive body image and create healthy and genuine friendships with peers. This ‘Sole Awesome’ running camp is perfect for girls looking to boost their self-confidence in a fun and active setting.
And don’t worry boys, there’s a newly-launched camp for you too! Check out Sole4Boys to learn more. B.C. Sole Girls camps are available in North Vancouver, Yaletown, Port Moody and Maple Ridge.
Boating is big in B.C., and a must-try adventure for anyone who loves to be on the water. The Deep Cove Yacht Club in North Vancouver hosts a range of Summer Sailing Programs for kids aged 4-16 (and they have programs for adults too!).
Through their half- and full-day camps, aspiring sailors and sea enthusiasts develop various skills in water safety, seamanship and knot-tying, preparing students to sail the seas solo. Kids love navigating this nautical adventure alongside their fun and well-trained instructors, and come out of the program more confident in themselves and on the water.
Trekking along the tree-lined trails of B.C.’s arborous landscape is an activity that tops the list of adventurous hikers. Mount Seymour, one of B.C.’s trifecta of family-friendly ski hills on the North Shore, features a series of Eco-Adventure camps that are perfect for nature-loving kids.
Campers connect with nature while being fully-immersed in the natural surroundings of the picturesque peak of the mountain. Focused on nature-based activities, the Eco-Adventure camps allow kids aged 5-12 to hike through the scenic wilderness, observe wildlife, and learn about the surrounding plants and animals while engaging in fun games and activities throughout the day.
Rock climbing is a popular West Coast pastime, with many local climbers scaling the rock faces of B.C.’s peaks both recreationally and competitively. The Hive Climbing Gym offers summer climbing camps for kids aged 6-12, where they learn skilled climbing techniques, develop strength and play games in a fun and active setting.
The camps are hosted both in the world-class indoor climbing gyms and at outdoor rock-climbing destinations, and also incorporate youth yoga into their programs. The summer programs at The Hive will boost confidence, conquer fears and teach kids to tackle their goals. B.C. camps are available in North Vancouver and Vancouver.
