Wandering into to Aphrodite’s Café in Kitsilano for a weekend brunch is like stepping into grandma’s kitchen for a hearty breakfast cooked up with farm-fresh organic ingredients. There’s no fuss or finery: schoolhouse-style lamps hang above simple wooden tables and chairs, and daily specials are printed on the chalkboard sign.

This homey atmosphere is a natural fit for the organic eatery, pie shop and catering company owned by farmer Allan Christian, a shareholder in Glen Valley Organic Farm. Almost all of the seasonal produce plated here is brought in fresh every day from the 50-acre Mt. Lehman farm. This is comfort eating at its best, and it’s a great way to support the local farmers. Grandma would be proud.
