You’ve Gotta Try This in March 2025

An incredible French dining experience, a curry competition, a new restaurant opening and more

Tariff talk is getting more and more stressful by the day. You know I’ve always advocated buying local and supporting B.C., but it looks like we all need to dig in a little more and become far, far better at reading labels and attending all the food events in March that we can.

Looks like things are gonna get messy—grab napkins and always count on Canada.

7 Food and Drink Events in B.C. in March 2025

Support B.C. Craft Spirits

The BC Gin Festival takes place on March 29 at the Roundhouse Community Centre and features 30 local distilleries. Buy a ticket and don’t forget to make use of the on-site liquor store and buy a bottle or two of your favourites to take home. Serious gin fans: check out the accompanying Distillers’ Table Series at Legacy featuring special tastings with Salish Sea Spirits and Victoria Distillers.

Eat All the Donuts at Goldie’s

West Vancouver is home to this superb doughnut shop in the little village by the ferry terminal. A friend took me there a few weeks ago and I have been obsessively dreaming of the Peanut Dubai doughnut ever since. Made brioche-style, these treats have a 24-hour fermentation process and I can’t recall ever tasting a more fluffy and fantastic doughnut. Flavours include mocha tiramisu, pistachio cream and raspberry and chocolate cream. Pre-order a few online and win at brunch (and life) on first bite.

Devour Kathis at Rollzy

Head on down to Robson at Richards and order up one of Rollzy’s delicious—and absolutely huge—kathi rolls. Bouncy paratha bread, your choice of tasty fillings, a slather of spicy mayo and chutney all rolls up into the best lunch. I had the chicken tikka: juicy chunks of chicken with a perfect spot of char from the grill. Their chai is especially good, too, as are their vegetarian options… and they’re open 24 hours a day.

Celebrate That Choucroute Garnie Is Back

One of the city’s most delicious annual traditions is the Choucroute Garnie dinners at Le Crocodile, a fabulous celebration of Alsatian cuisine with sauerkraut, boudin blanc and plenty of Riesling. Rob Feenie is continuing this tradition on March 25 and 26 with a five-course set menu that features foie gras terrine and duck consommé. It will be wildly decadent and undoubtedly delicious: book your seat now.

Check out the All-New Peya

I don’t know too much about this new Hastings-Sunrise restaurant, but I do know that it’s bringing together two of my favourite cuisines: Indian and French. Plus, and that it has friend of the column, Chris Enns (ex-World Class Canada Bartender of the Year) at the helm, so drinks will freaking fabulous. Peya opens very soon, check their Insta for details.

Bag Your Tickets for the Curry Cup

One of the most fun fundraising events for the Chef’s Table Society is back on March 24 at the Heritage Hall—the 11th edition of the Curry Cup. Eight of Vancouver’s best chefs will compete for the trophy and your ticket buys you a chance to taste all their creations and vote on your favourite.

Road Trip to Victoria for Potatoes

There are few things in this world that bring me as much joy as a perfectly done spud. Imagine then my table-banging, eye-rolling glee at the insanely crisp-on-the-outside, fluffy-on-the-inside beauties at Q at the Empress in Victoria. They came drenched in a black garlic butter that I’m still dreaming about. Worth the road trip? Actually, yes. I try not to have many regrets in life, but not going back the next day and laying waste to another portion I will rue till my last day.
