Five cool Vancouver New Year’s parties that ring in on budget

New Year’s Eve is still two weeks away, but don’t wait until the last minute to buy party tickets, or you’ll end up in one of two places: stinking up your rented tux on an overcrowded, overpriced dance floor, or banging pots and pans on your front stoop.

And if your procrastination is due to discouraging hundred-dollar tickets and the overwhelming number of events to choose from, don’t despair. Here are five cool music-filled New Year’s Eve parties in Vancouver, all with advance ticket prices between $12 and $55.


 

Caribbean New Year’s Party


Get your soca (and dancehall and chutney) on at Surrey’s historic Sullivan Hall with DJs Obosi, Hayden and Kizum, and guitarist Vincy Man. One Night Stand


Ring in the new decade with local up-and-coming indie talent. Members of the Painted Birds, Elias, Bend Sinister, Said the Whale, The Gentle Infidels, Laura Smith and Hannah Georgas join forces for covers and collaborations. Astoria Soul Club New Year’s Eve


Not just for soul purists and record geeks, this first-ever New Year’s dance party features favourites and rarities spun by SlimRoy and Jonny Was. Ice Cream Social New Year’s Party


This third annual party features 1950s and ’60s dance tunes by Vancouver’s premier sockhop DJs Trevor Risk, Cam Dales, Tyler Fedchuk and Justin Gradin, and sets by local bands Terror Bird, Defektors and Dead Ghosts.
