Cougar Town has been picked up by TBS, and Courteney Cox couldn’t be happier

In the wake of TBS picking up Cougar Town after ABC dropped it, Courteney Cox tells Zap2it, “I am looking forward to being on a network where we will get a lot of support.”

No need to read between the lines. She pretty much says what had long been known in the industry — the cast and showrunners had felt ABC was not helping the show enough.

“They will promo us like crazy,” Cox says of TBS, which will begin airing new episodes of Cougar Town early next year.

Co-creator Bill Lawrence is stepping down as showrunner, but Cox says, “I feel like he will take care of us in whatever capacity he can, as much as he can. But I feel like we will be taken care of. And he is so amazing.”

After three seasons of playing Jules Cobb, a divorced mom who knows the benefits of an enormous glass of wine, Cox is happy to continue with the character. The rest of the cast is intact.

“I feel fine and I feel excited about moving forward an and I think everything will be OK,” she says. “I think what he [Lawrence] created will stay.”

The other creator, Kevin Biegel, “will be around as well,” she says.

There is a new showrunner, but the deal was sealed only on Monday (May 21), so Cox can’t say who it is yet.

“Nothing will be different about the show,” Cox says. “It is the same writers and it is going to be great to be at a [new] network, and they are excited, and that makes for a better everything.”
