Downton Abbey alum Joanne Froggatt headlines a new drama series about a mother with a secret
They say never judge a book by its cover… and you should also never judge a woman by how many Lululemon leggings she owns. (OK, to be fair, it’s unclear whether the suburban mum in this British thriller is a fiend for athletic wear, but there’s definitely more to her than meets the eye.)
The series, which arrived earlier this month on CBC’s free streaming service, stars Downton Abbey alum Joanne Froggatt as Angela—a mother-of-two with a seemingly perfect life. However, in reality, she suffers daily torment from her husband, Olivier (Michiel Huisman, The Flight Attendant). It seems like there’s no way out, but when a private eye named Ed (Samuel Adewunmi) comes knocking one day and reveals that Olivier has a deep, dark secret or three, our heroine is forced to decide whether she will continue living in a constant state of abuse, fear and deception, or take this intel as a chance to fight for her freedom but risk losing everything—her life included. Another problem: can Angela really trust the sleuth who’s supplied her with this dirt, or does Ed have a hidden agenda of his own?
