Jennifer Finnigan is back in season two of Moonshine
When Lidia Bennett returned to fading Nova Scotian holiday resort The Moonshine for the reading of her aunt’s will, few could have anticipated that the type-A Finley-Cullen offspring who built a shiny life and career in New York City would end the season feeling more at peace on the South Shore campground than she had in years. As the second season starts up, just days after the dramatic ending of season one, the newly single 40-something is ready to tackle the next phase of her life. “Lidia has started to realize that this is where she wants to be,” says Jennifer Finnigan, who portrays the eldest Finley-Cullen sibling. “She is ready to rediscover who she is as a woman and, also, to fight for this crazy, ramshackle B&B that her parents and siblings fight over. She’s ready to get in and help save it.”CBCAfter the arrest of drug-smuggling Jill Leblanc (Allegra Fulton), who had her own nefarious plans for the resort, the Finley-Cullen family are looking for a less criminal way to keep the place running. Enter outlaw biker Gale Favreau (Alan Hawco), who introduces the family to the world of money laundering (OK, maybe not less so much as a different kind of criminal activity.) And it’s not just the money that’s getting spun around here. “Lidia is intrigued and tickled by Gale. He’s dangerous and seductive and everything that she’s never been with,” says Finnigan. “What Gale brings out in Lidia gets her back in touch with who she was as a teenager. She has a little bit of an identity crisis where she reverts back into this giggly teen around him.”
CBCThe attraction between Biker and Bennett is not one-sided. “Hurricane Lidia comes out of nowhere and blows his mind,” says Republic of Doyle actor Hawco, whose character is eager to explore the seemingly unattainable relationship. “Having come from that extremely volatile world that he lives in, I don’t think Gale ever thought he could be with someone like Lidia, who’s sophisticated, educated and from the big city.” While the perfect candidate for a fiery fling, Lidia’s architecture degree does not quite make her the best partner for the kind of enterprise the Marauders’ outlaw biker club is running. “What is Gale doing going into business with her? He’s out of his mind,” laughs Hawco. “But she’s such a great learner and so interested in expanding her horizons.
