Here's why you need to visit Disneyland this summer
Topping every child’s travel bucket list is the world’s most magical destination: Disneyland. Coincidentally, Disneyland is also one hot spot that many parents are hesitant to explore, fearful of the planning and stamina required to make the trip as exciting and enchanting as their offspring’s expectations.
This year, Disneyland has stepped up its sparkle with added rides, shows and attractions to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the day Walt Disney himself opened the doors to his land of enchantment. With added dazzle and Walt-inspired whimsy, there has never been a better time to dash off to Disneyland.
Click through for 10 reasons why you should stop procrastinating and book your magical Disneyland vacation today—before you miss out on an epic celebration that was 60 years in the making…
Revive or reveal your love for Disneyland’s classic rides. Take a spin in teacups on the Mad Tea Party, bobsled down the Matterhorn, gasp at the ghosts of the Haunted Mansion and take a cheerful cruise through It’s A Small World. In honour of the 60th celebration, many of these classic rides have new special effects and animatronics (check out the updated yeti on the Matterhorn and the new ghoulish guy in the Haunted Mansion).
Channel your inner Lightning McQueen and zoom along the straightaway stretch of Ornament Valley, then zigzag through the red-rock formations of Radiator Springs—all while racing side-by-side with your competition. A highlight of Cars Land, this ride will rev your engines and leave you racing back for another run around the track.
Hop behind the wheel of one of Luigi’s colourful cousins and go for a whirl on the unique trackless ride inspired by one of Disney Pixar’s most beloved four-wheeled characters. Modelled after 1950s Italian micro-cars, the bright cuties dance and dash around the dance floor to a variety of tunes. This months-old attraction is new to Cars Land, and a must-ride for car lovers of all ages.
Explore a galaxy far, far away, right in the heart of Tomorrowland in Disneyland Park. Star Tours —The Adventures Continue is a can’t-miss adventure where visitors climb aboard a Starspeeder 1000 and zoom through the galaxy on a flight simulator steered by C-3PO. Gasp as you embark on an intergalactic journey on the out-of-this-world motion ride, and ride it twice, because no journey is the same.
Also topping the list of must-ride attractions is Hyperspace Mountain. The classic Disney coaster, Space Mountain, has been given a space-lift, transformed into a high-speed, intergalactic adventure fit for Star Wars enthusiasts and coaster buffs of all ages.
Grab a burger from the Star Wars-themed Galactic Grill and watch as junior Jedis-in-training learn to maneuver light sabers before attempting to defeat the villains of the Dark Side. Register your little ones to participate in the battle (4-12 years of age), or sit back and enjoy the show from the sidelines.
Tantalize your taste buds and fuel your inner foodie with fabulous fine dining offerings—yes, in Disneyland. Located in Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, Napa Rose features a farm-to-table, upscale, Californian-style menu, and an extensive range of high-quality wine options. This is the perfect destination for an elegant date night, where you can unwind after a long day roaming the adventure parks.
Let it go and confess your fondness for Frozen! Head to the Hyperion Theatre in Disney California Adventure Park for the coolest live musical experience hitting the stage this year: Frozen Frozen — Live at the Hyperion Live at the Hyperion. This production is so much more than a theatrical interpretation of the award-winning Disney film, featuring before-your-eyes magic, barrels of laughs and a tearful finale that will have you on your feet applauding for more. This production will melt the hearts of forever Frozen fans and fans-to-be both young and old.
Watch as your favourite Disney characters come to life, illuminated by one million colourful light bulbs as they dance down the corridor of Main Street in the Disney Paint The Night Parade. This amped-up version of Disneyland’s traditional night parade elevates the float-featured affair to a whole new level, with luminescent floats, carefully-curated costumes and accompanying music that will have you dancing on your feet. This is the biggest and brightest parade in the history of Disneyland—the perfect way to celebrate 60 years of magic.
Feast your eyes on a one-of-a-kind fireworks spectacular, enhanced to celebrate the history of the world’s most beloved amusement park. Incorporating projections on the buildings of Main Street, Disney characters soaring across the sky and a scintillating soundtrack, this street-to-sky experience will not only light up the night sky, it’ll light up your hearts.
Have your mind blown by the World of Color-Celebrate! show, set against the backdrop of the Mickey-adorned Ferris wheel at Disney California Adventure Park. Watch on wide-eyed as the history of Disneyland unfolds before your eyes, with imagery projected on the misty spray of the fountains that line the water’s surface. Neil Patrick Harris adds extra sparkle as he salutes, sings and soars across the sky as the virtual host of the evening. The whirling water, flashy fire and fanciful laser effects that dazzle during the 22-minute spectacular will leave you awestruck and teary-eyed with overwhelm as the most magical place on Earth lights up the Californian night sky.
Hurry and book your Disneyland adventure now, because the 60th anniversary festivities are scheduled to end in September 2016.
