Grab some friends and kick back this summer at Whistler's best patios
Quick, there’s still time to catch some rays before fall puts in its annual appearance. Patio season is in full swing and Whistler has its fair share of sunshine. Whether it’s après spa or pre-game, there’s a patio seat with your name on it at one of these six village hot spots.
Click through for the top 6 patios to enjoy this summer in Whistler…
Newly expanded for 2016, Nita Lake Lodge’s picturesque patio wins the award for most Instagram-worthy location. With a backdrop of mountains, the two-tier lakeside patio is the perfect place for sunset sipping and enjoying seasonal dishes from chef Dean Hossack’s new summer selection of meat, fish and veggie dishes.
Nestled in the heart of Whistler Village, Araxi’s patio offers the ultimate in people-watching potential, and summer celebrations mean that a recovery brunch is on the menu on weekends between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Laterin the afternoon, the après menu (including oysters) can be enjoyed al fresco before locally sourced dinner dishes are served at 5 p.m.
At the Fairmont Chateau Whistler, guests are spoiled for choice with five patios to choose from—but the Mallard Terrace is the best place for slopeside summer cocktails with views of Whistler Mountain (and a chance to enjoy an extensive martini menu). Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the main village, the Mallard Terrace is a sophisticated and relaxing spot to watch what’s happening on the slopes.
Hidden away in the Village, Basalt is a place to see but not be seen, making it an ideal destination for a date. Take a seat in the sunshine and chow down on cheese from around the world such as blue Stilton from the UK and manchego from Spain, plus meats that include Spanish chorizo and aged beef prosciutto from B.C.’s Two Rivers.
Cheap and cheerful is sometimes the order of the day. If you’re in Whistler and want to soak up some sun but don’t want to drain your wallet, then El Furniture Warehouse‘s big patio is in a prime position for people-watching while you tuck into tacos and wings.
Smack dab at the bottom of Blackcomb Mountain, the Dubh Linn Gate patio is the place to ogle mountain bikers as they slam down the hills. Cool off under the misters in this sunny spot that’s perfect for working on your tan while you catch up with friends and soak in the Whistler vibe.
