This new metal, created by Tiffany, marks the next milestone in its legacy of designing original and beautiful jewellery
Tiffany designers contrast the warmth of RUBEDO with sterling silver in a necklace of interlocking circles of great movement and dimension
To celebrate its 175th anniversary, Tiffany & Co has created a new metal called RUBEDOTM. It marries the richness of gold, the brilliance of silver and the warmth of copper, giving it a “first light” quality that is both unquestionably graceful and undeniably modern.
Compared to rose gold, RUBEDO is lighter in colour and cooler in tone, making it a versatile and timeless metal.
RUBEDO metal is the first such creation in Tiffany’s history. Its name makes reference to the last stage of the magnum opus in the process of making the legendary Philosopher’s Stone. This final phase is rumoured to transform gold into a red metal, hence RUBEDO’s lovely rose hue.
The alchemic, philosophical and aesthetic interpretations of what Rubedo means lends to the jewellery an enhanced sense of playfulness and mystery.
Tiffany metallurgists experimented with different ratios for over two years until they achieved the desired colour.
This unique alloy is lightweight yet strong, polishes to a gleaming lustre and is exceptionally flattering to the skin.
Depending on the light, it can range in colour from a blush-pink rosy hue to a sophisticated tan glow.
It’s a unique colour that looks instantly classic on its own and even more luminous when mixed with other metals.
RUBEDO debuts in Tiffany 1837™ designs that feature elegant contours polished to a high sheen and finished with the jeweller’s hallmark.
These designs are exclusive to RUBEDO and are not available in other metals.
And just for 2012, these RUBEDO jewellery pieces are inscribed with the signature of founder Charles Lewis Tiffany, in celebration of Tiffany’s anniversary year.
RUBEDO jewellery will be available beyond 2012, but future pieces will not carry the Tiffany’s signature stamp.
The RUBEDO collection is available at Tiffany & Co. Vancouver locations at 723 Burrard Street and Oakridge Centre or by calling 1-800-265-1251.
