Antique and vintage finds at The Found & The Freed’s new permanent location on Powell Street

Pop-up shop The Found & The Freed moves into a cozy new permanent storefront

What began as rented wall space to sell antiques in a small Gastown shop evolved into a handful of pop-up shops and has finally settled into a permanent location. The Found & The Freed, a local purveyor of charming antiques and hard-to-find knick-knacks, has opened its first storefront on Powell Street, in Vancouver.

“It started out by chance,” says Lindsay Burke, one of the store’s two owners. After coming across antique transit scrolls from old, salvaged buses – “an amazing thing to find” – Burke and co-owner Ainsley McIntyre were inspired to make a business out of their burgeoning antiques collection.

The two venture out to estate sales, auctions and on road trips through Canada and the U.S. to source their eclectic wares ranging from vintage maps to large furniture pieces to quirky household decor. The new location is packed with large- and small-scale antiques, but Burke says they still plan to supplement their new store with occasional pop-up shops, which provide a more curated presentation of their best finds.

Their summer pop-up shop, at 110 Water Street, in Gastown, runs until August 17, and the pair says they are planning another for the holiday season.
