It’s September: fashion’s glory month. September is NY Fashion Week and bible-sized Vogue. Did you like the Lady Gaga Vogue cover by the way? It’s created quite a stir. Vogue readers are questioning: “Why her? Why now? Why does she look like she was styled by a Lorax?”
In Vancouver’s fashion and retail scene, September ushers in the city’s first Fashion’s Night Out, September 6. For one night only, retailers host in-store parties and offer discounts to eager fall fashionistas. It’s fun, free and a chance to feel like you reside Milan or Paris while lookin’ good and sipping bubbly on Robson.
Although Eco Fashion Week doesn’t arrive until October, there are three fashion shows of note this month. More on those below. Best of all, September’s cool mornings welcome window shopping for fall’s on-trend, cozy knit sweaters and herringbone blazers. It’s time to revamp that summer wardrobe. More on the latest fashion events and collections below.
On September 6, from 5pm to 10pm, Vancouver’s retailers are hosting the city’s first Fashion’s Night Out, a city-wide party and celebration of fall fashion. The glamourous evening kicks off with a free fashion show at CBC Studios at 5pm, featuring Jason Matlo and Jacqueline Conoir. From 6-10pm, retailers including Gap, Banana Republic, J.Crew, Miss Sixty, Ishara, MAC Cosmetics, Tiffany & Co., Holt Renfrew and more are hosting in store events with gift giveaways, drinks, appies and discounts. Find the full list here. Don’t miss the Bar None after party.
Friday, September 7, Fortune is hosting the F As In Frank Back To School Vintage Fashion Show. Get on the guestlist by e-mailing ‘your full name + COSMO BAKER’ to guest@fortunesoundclub.com valid 10:30pm to midnight.
Holt Renfrew is 175 years old this month, but she doesn’t look it. Vancouver’s venerable downtown fashion bazaar is celebrating with a limited edition designer birthday garb, in magenta, Holt’s signature colour. Drop by and browse all month.
Grab the chance to see the kdon fall 2012 fashion show at Fraiche on September 26. kdon is Vancouverite Kim Cathers‘ label. You may remember this local style celeb from Project Runway, or perhaps her gig styling Michael Buble.
Throughout September, fashionable ladies and gents can rest up after fall shopping at The Urban Tea Merchant (in the middle of the downtown shopping district). Haute Couture Tea means a multi-tiered tray of tea-infused treats ranging from quails eggs and wild mushrooms to macarons and petit fours ($48 per person).
