Eco-Friendly Home Tips for Summer
Get your summer style fix this June with an exciting round-up of sales, parties and launches
Deborah Lippman summer shades at Kitsilano’s Wish List Boutique
When Banana Republic went looking for the perfect collaborator on a Palm Springs-inspired fashion collection, Trina Turk was their true-love-match. The LA-based designer has specialized in effortless, California-chic since 1995. Turk’s 60-piece, limited edition collection for Banana Republic is a bonanza of bright, summery prints. Patio dresses, bikinis and “zazzy” zebra print pencil skirts are on sale on the Banana Republic website and in-store throughout June.
Wish List Boutique (2811 West Broadway) is celebrating summer with a 25%-off weekend discount June 15-16, whether or not the weather cooperates. Get your paws on candy-coloured nail lacquers by Deborah Lippman and NCLA. The boutique also stocks MZ by Principessa – the newly released jasmine fragrance by Real Housewife Mary Zilba – and St.Tropez self-tanners. In-store beauty demos run all weekend along with the sale.
Main Street’s expertly curated shoe and accessories shop Eugene Choo (3697 Main St.) has just opened “Annex” in the neighbouring space. The new digs showcase a wider selection of shoes, bags and accessories than the original. Newbie labels include: The Office of Angela Scott, Le Botte Gardiane, Belle by Sigerson Morrison, New Balance and Florsheim.
Help eco-label Adhesif, by charismatic Vancouverite Melissa Ferreira, rock the heck out of their two-year anniversary. The shop (2202 Main St.) is hosting a storewide sale with deep discounts on handmade designs and tasty treats. Just don’t get any cupcake icing or fruity bevvies on the threads.
Tix are now on sale for Maker Faire – “the greatest show and tell on earth.” Maker shows the world what the clever (and sometimes crazy) folk out there are making, from crafters to tinkerers, hobbyists and artists. Whether you’re an aspiring creator, or a shopper on the hunt for one-of-a-kind trinkets, Maker is the place to connect. An adult day pass is $15.
Kitsilano is on fire. Not only has mega-store Urban Outfitters settled in on the shopping strip West 4th Avenue, a slew of privately owned, carefully-curated boutiques are investing in Kits as their new home. Calgary’s co-ed Leo Boutique has expanded with a Kits location (2074 West 4th Ave.), giving yoga bunnies and beach boho types a convenient place to scoop up duds by labels J Brand, Rich and Famous, Opening Ceremony and more.
Held in the old Boneta spot in Gastown, Cycle Chic Social is dedicated to the style, art, and design rampant in Vancouver’s cyclist crew. Tickets are just $12. Enjoy nibbles, booze and a live fashion installation by Fashionilla featuring local retailers and designers Bianca Barr Jewellery, Bhana Designs, Cuchè Bikinis, Rowan Sky Shoes, Neighbour Clothing, and more.
