Gap's first collection with Diane von Furstenberg for GapKids and babyGap launches March 15
Diane von Furstenberg has collaborated with Gap to produce a playful and colourful collection for young and very young girls
On March 15, thousands of women might find themselves wondering the same thing if they wander into the Gap: “Can I squeeze into this?”
That’s the day Gap launches its first collaboration with Diane von Furstenberg, who brings her iconic sense of women’s fashion to clothes for young girls.
In Metro Vancouver, the collection will be available in Gap’s Park Royal and Oakridge stores, as well as online. The collection is adorable beyond belief, but still reflects the reality of busy kids and families. “I design clothes that you can move in and that is particularly important for girls. They can dress up or down but they are always on the go!”
Last year, Gap collaborated with Stella McCartney on two sell-out collections. She has since started her own childrenswear line. Could this be the first glimpse of a future “Little Miss DVF” range of clothing for kids?
At the heart of the collection are floral and leaf patterned prints, like this black and blue large floral babydoll dress, $68 and wrap romper, $68 with knot sandal, $48. von Furstenberg has transformed the entire fashion industry with her use of such bold statement designs.
This collection will appeal to girls even if they’ve yet to open up their first issue of Vogue and discover the marvellous world of DVF.
“We used a lot of rich colours and vintage prints that are playful and youthful,” enthuses von Furstenberg. “It is perfect for young girls, but also true to DVF.”
Shift dresses, like this colour-blocked cotton green daisy dress, $78, mixes solids and prints using a sophisticated and refined appliqué daisy detail.
Clothes were most definitely not like this when I was a kid.
And, of course, what DVF collection would be complete without one of her legendary wrap dresses, like this paper blossom wrap dress, $68, with knot sandal, $68? Here the shape is softly reinvented with a higher waist, in crisp cotton or as a jersey romper for babies and toddlers.
Shorts and cropped trousers keep the silhouettes simple, with all the statement coming from the prints, as seen in this ensemble featuring a striped blazer, $88; splatter tank top, $32; shorts, $38; and high top sneakers, $38.
This is the result of two design powerhouses bringing together and combining their strengths: DVF’s signature use of bold prints and Gap’s trademarked sense of casual, fun style.
What summer ensemble would be complete without a floppy wide brim beach hat, $28?
And the perfect accessory to go with these dresses and romp-about outfits? Wedge espadrilles, $43, of course.
And if she’s lucky enough, perhaps this is the piece that she’ll be in the most this summer, DVF’s one-piece daisy swimsuit, $48.
With prices starting from $28 up to $123, the collection will be available in select Canadian stores on March 15, including Park Royal and Oakridge Mall, and online.
