Designed by Kelly Schroeder of Heritage Perennials, this blue and gold container planting “stands at the gate to our back garden and reflects the predominant colours of the garden it leads to.”
The contrasting textures of deep-blue Aconitum carmichaelii that blooms from September to November and evergreen Festuca glauca ‘Elijah Blue’ add interest when little else is in bloom. The container gets about a half day of sun, but is protected from the hottest part of the afternoon.
Here’s what is in the container: 1. Aconitum carmichaelii (azure monkshead) – zone 2 2. Ipomea batatas ‘Margarita’ (chartreuse sweet potato vine) – zone 9 3. Campanula ‘Blue Waterfall’ (bellflower – flowers) – zone 2 4. Campanula ‘Blue Waterfall’ (bellflower – foliage) – zone 2 5. Festuca glauca ‘Elijah Blue’ – zone 3
