This recipe creates a perfect slow-release fertilizer. Add a large handful around each plant or toss in a smaller handful at planting time.
• 4 cups (1 L) alfalfa meal • 1 cup (250 mL) glacial rock dust • 1 cup (250 mL) kelp meal • 1 cup (250 mL) greensand
Mix thoroughly and place 1/3 cup (75 mL) of the mixture into the bottom of each hole at planting time. Suitable for all vegetables, but especially useful for high-calcium feeders such as squash, melons, cucumbers and tomatoes.
