Filtered sunlight and a level deck helped turn this multi-level garden into a backyard woodland oasis

This multi-level, woodland garden had complete privacy, but too little sun and unfriendly slopes.

Garden makeover process
An arborist was called to assess the trees – several were removed, many were crown-thinned or rearranged and the upper deck now has filtered sunlight.

Ruth Olde’s team from Blasig Landscape Design & Construction Ltd. added dry-stacked basalt walls and Old Country Stone pavers to create a cosy level area – just for two – nestled against the upper deck.
Steps were added to level the slope and a meandering pathway now leads to the playhouse and vegetable patch, while an arbour acts as the doorway to the lower garden – a cooling, calming forest and natural stream.
