What’s on Our Editors’ Nightstands Right Now?

We let your curiosity get the better of us...

Do you ever visit a friend and curiously snoop (respectfully, of course!) to see how they decorate and what products they’re using? Today’s your lucky day. We’re giving you an inside look at our bedrooms—well, our bedside tables, to be exact. Here’s one item that’s on our editors’ nightstands (or near enough) that we just love.

Aesop

Cythera Aromatique Room Spray by Aesop, $81

I religiously make my bed each morning. This routine also means I like my linens to be crisp and clean—or at least, maintain the freshly-laundered illusion. That’s where room and linen spray comes in. A few (or more) spritzes from this bottle, and I’m feeling like I just walked into a hotel room or a lush garden. The Cythera Aromatique Room Spray from Aesop is a warm, woody, spiced scent. The main ingredients (geranium, incense, patchouli and myrrh) offer a peaceful awakening to the senses, making me ready for the day. Sometimes, though, it makes me want to simply stay in and enjoy the scent with an exciting book and a good glass of wine. —Sandrine Jacquot, editor BCLiving

I’ve been obsessed with Vancouver ceramicist Ami Sangha‘s pieces since I first saw them at One of a Few. Her wavy, checkered plates were super popular a few years ago, and while she’s moved on to different styles of clay pieces since (I recently purchased matching ceramic bag charms for my BFF and I from her), this is one of my most treasured pieces, and it marks a time when I started to invest in more handmade goods for my home. I use it to store my jewellery at the end of the night, and it adds such a gorgeous pop of colour and pattern to my nightstand. —Rebekah Ho, digital marketing manager

AND Ceramics Lamp, $238

AND Ceramic Studio

I first spotted these lamps from Vancouver-based ceramicist AND at IDS Vancouver a couple of years ago, and though I fall in love with light fixtures all the time (a hazard of being a senior editor at Western Living magazine), the fact that I was still dreaming about this textured, rust-coloured piece years later felt like a good sign it was more than just a passing fancy. I love the stoneware form and the warm light that spills out of the top, like the illumination is spilling out of a handmade vase. It’s the ideal accent on the shelf of my wall-bed cabinet (OK, technically not a nightstand, but close enough! Don’t be mad, Sandrine!).—Stacey McLachlan, editor-in-chief, Vancouver magazine

Wilet

Linen Duvet Set from Wilet, $350

I became a linen sheet convert during COVID, when my bedroom became a den of zen and a place to find comfort during unprecedented times. Linen, to me, is the ultimate luxury in bedding and really great in any season. Cool in the summer, cozy in the winter, and just a breeze to wash and wear. This set from Wilet (also a female-led Vancouver brand!) comes in great colourways, from blush to ochre and evergreen, no matter what kind of vibe you’re trying to achieve in your own zen den. —Darcy Matheson, editor-in-chief, BCBusiness

Silk & Snow

Silk Sleep Mask, $30

I’m the kind of sleeper who needs complete darkness for my brain to agree with the rest of my body that it’s time to honk-shoo and not spiral about the way I said “adage” (the French-sounding ah-dawge). This mask cocoons my eyes in pillowy silk and blocks out light, plus the occasional late-night anxiety about my life’s trajectory. Bonus: I spritz on a little lavender for extra relaxation mojo. —Kerri Donaldson, assistant editor, Vancouver magazine and Western Living
