While it can be tough trying to get work done with everything going on in the world, giving your home office or workspace a re-design can do wonders for productivity
Most of us are currently working from home, slowly adjusting to our new reality and trying our best to be productive. While it can be tough trying to get work done with everything going on in the world, giving your home office or workspace a redesign can do wonders for productivity. Not to mention, it’s a lot of fun and can improve our mood!
Below, interior designer Maria Decotiis shares her seven tips for designing the dreamiest home office…
It’s no secret that natural light helps us focus better. It also makes us happier, providing Vitamin B and D and boosting our immune systems. When considering the layout of your home office furniture, try to have your desk face a window, if possible. This will give you a pleasing view of the outdoors and let in plenty of sunshine.
A lot of us aren’t used to working from home this often. If you don’t have a full room available for an office, don’t worry! Be creative and select an area in your home that you can transform into your own special work area. Place a small desk or table in your bedroom, or transform an unused closet into a cozy office nook.
Reorganizing is a great way to give yourself a quick boost of productivity. A disorganized workspace creates a chaotic environment and decreases our ability to concentrate. Organizing your desk saves time you would otherwise spend searching for things. Plus, it’s so much more enjoyable working in an area that is tidy, clutter-free and beautiful!
Incorporate layering into your home office to add warmth. Placing an area rug under your desk or adding drapes to your windows will instantly warm up a space and make it feel more comfortable and inviting.
Keep paperwork hidden with proper storage. No matter where your home office is located, it’s crucial to have adequate storage space for all your work materials. That way, at the end of the day, it’s out of sight, out of mind!
It can be difficult to be productive when you’re unmotivated or uninspired. Fill your workspace with items you love and transform it into a place that feels welcoming, somewhere you would enjoy spending time in. Add personal items like photographs or things you treasure.
Even something as simple as lighting a candle while you’re working can improve the atmosphere. Working in a space that evokes happiness will allow you to do your best work.
Wallpaper is a great way to breathe life and personality into a space. Don’t be afraid to experiment with creative patterns and prints. This is the perfect time to add that extra personal touch. Even creating an accent wall with your favourite wallpaper can work wonders for creativity and instantly brighten up a space.
Remember, your home office should be a comforting, warm and welcoming place and should be an extension of the rest of your home. Avoid items that make it feel commercial. Productivity is at its peak when you are in a space that makes you feel your best.
