See these starry designs at IDS Vancouver from September 22 to 25
This week marks the September equinox, the moment the sun crosses the celestial equator. Fitting then that five designers at this year’s IDS Vancouver (September 22 to 25) have created some celestially inspired designs.

Industrial designer Tom Dixon, keynote speaker for IDS Vancouver’s Trade Day, has developed a new curved light series reminiscent of a satellite, and his latest designs will be available for sale at a pop-up shop. Also check out Tom Dixon’s Fire Kitchen (colours selected for this kitchen have a dramatic black and dark gray appearance), the central feature exhibit at IDS Vancouver this year.
While lit, this new light by Dutch design duo Nathan Wierink and Tineke Beunders of Ontwerpduo looks like a normal white light. When turned off, it leaves a blue, starry glow that slowly fades over time. This new light will be on display in the Dutch Exchange: Eindhoven at IDS Vancouver.
Inspired by the legs of the Apollo 11 Lunar module, the Apollo Bowl Holder is designed by Portland’s Scott Cummings of Base Modern. Available on the Base Modern website for US$120, this bowl holder lands a celestial touch on the dinner table.
Urban Walls is exhibiting at The District, where IDS Vancouver attendees who are swept away by designs like these star decals can purchase the pieces onsite. Star Decals are available for purchase on UrbanWalls.com for $67.53.
The District exhibitor Lana Betty designs jewellery locally in Vancouver. Moon Rings are 3-D-printed treasures, and are available on LanaBetty.com for $45.
Now in its twelfth year, IDS Vancouver is the Pacific platform for all things design, featuring individual designers, artists, makers and design-centric brands who have come together in Vancouver to showcase their current work.
