Food Boxes with Local B.C. Produce That Deliver Right to Your Door

Getting fresh food directly farm-to-table in B.C. has never been easier

B.C. has an abundance of fresh, locally farmed produce, meat, dairy—you name it. And, you can get this local food delivered without ever having to leave home. We’ve rounded up eight produce and food boxes or delivery services stocking local B.C. and Canadian products that bring the goods straight to your door (plus a few bonus recommendations for more local food delivery delight).

8 Food Boxes In B.C. That Deliver

1. South Island FarmHub

The South Island FarmHub in Victoria was born in 2020 with the goal of making local and fresh farm goods accessible to the community, sourcing its organic and conventional products from over 85 local farmers, fishers and food producers. It has a home delivery program featuring Harvest boxes (fruit and produce) and Island Meat boxes, as well as individual item ordering from local fruits, vegetables, eggs, meat, seafood, pantry items and more. The subscription boxes are all $40 each, running year-round, weekly or bi-weekly, and delivered or available for pick-up.

2. Odd Bunch

Odd Bunch doesn’t let “imperfect” looking produce go to waste, partnering with Canadian farmers, greenhouses and distributors (including many B.C.-based farms like Shadow Produce Family Farm in Chilliwack) for its produce boxes. Odd Bunch has several subscription box options depending on the preferred size, and delivers the unique-looking fruits and vegetables directly to customers’ doors on a weekly basis.

3. LocalMotive CSA Delivery

LocalMotive’s CSA (community supported agriculture) boxes contain all-Canadian produce, the majority grown in B.C., to connect small producers to consumers in the South Okanagan (from West Kelowna to Osoyoos). Started in 2005, LocalMotive sources produce from its own organic farm in Summerland and from local farmers. Customers build a custom box or choose their CSA box (prices start at $30 a box and typically contain 70 percent vegetables, 30 percent fruit), select the subscription frequency and add any additional local grocery items before receiving the order.

4. Tropical Produce

This Surrey-based, family-owned produce wholesaler has a range of produce boxes available for home delivery, including the Detox Vegetable Box and Small Produce Box for those wanting smaller portions. Tropical Produce imports from a range of sources (and lets customers even add particular produce items onto their boxes) but its BC Box is purely stocked with B.C.-based produce depending on what’s in season. Tropical Produce delivers to regions all around the Lower Mainland, like Burnaby, Delta, Coquitlam, Port Moody, Richmond and Vancouver.

5. Meridian Farm Market

Get the best of all three worlds (in-store, delivery and pick-up options) with local grocery family business Meridian Farm Market. Order fresh, local products online for next-day delivery in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. Or, order from Meridian’s pre-made boxes and bundles, like the Meal Kits (choose from options like the Weekly Essentials box or kits like the  Spaghetti Dinner or Taco Tuesday). Meridian also has produce boxes and Butcher Bundles too—no subscription required. Customers with orders of $100 or more also get free delivery.

6. Crop Drop

Crop Drop specializes in local regeneratively farmed produce and pasture-raised meat, partnering with local farmers to get customers farm-to-table products. Customers can select specific grocery items or choose from the boxes, with the option to subscribe to monthly or bi-weekly deliveries. Crop Drop also has pick-up locations in Sechelt, at the Bowen Island Farmers Market and in Lonsdale Quay (where there’s also a store location).

7. Peko Produce

Peko Produce (now part of Fresh Prep) was started by two university students in 2021 to deliver “peculiar” and surplus grocery items to customers, cutting down on food waste. Peko does source its produce from a range of local and Canadian farmers, wholesalers and producers (not just in B.C.) who can’t sell their items in conventional grocery stores. Customers get 40 percent off retail prices with groceries in Peko’s mystery produce-filled Peko Bag or the Peko+ Mystery Box (which contains other grocery items too). For orders in the Lower Mainland, $1 from every sale in goes to the Food Stash Foundation and Vancouver Food Runners.

Good Food Box aims to make local and fresh food accessible (and affordable) to the Greater Victoria community. Managed by the Fernwood Neighbourhood House, customers can choose from one of its many boxes (including a B.C.-only box) and either pick up the box themselves or have it delivered directly to their door on Wednesdays in the Greater Victoria area. By purchasing a box from Good Food Box, customers are also supporting local non-profits.

More Local Food and Meal Delivery Options

There are plenty more deliverable local food boxes around B.C., along with numerous businesses that fulfill online grocery orders, create boxes for pick-up or deliver ready-made or ready-to-make meal kits. Spud, for example, is an online grocery store that delivers local, sustainable and organic items right to customers’ doors, including the Lower Mainland and the Victoria-Nanaimo corridor on Vancouver Island.

For healthy meal prep and kit recommendations, try Earthy Plate for organic and locally sourced meals, 2GuysWithKnives for nutritional gluten-free options and Fresh Prep for every-day convenient meal kits. For item-specific ordering services for pick-up, try eatFISH or Skipper Otto for locally and sustainably harvested seafood, or Easy Harvest Box for vertically grown healthy mushrooms. And if you’re still looking for more options, sign up for a box with a local producer directly part of a community supported agriculture (CSA) program (or check in at your local farmers market).
