Embarking on a food tour is truly one of the best ways to get the sense of a city’s culinary scene. You get to indulge in gastronomic delights from some local independent restaurants and glean a little history about the cities along the way. When it comes to filling up on great food and fun facts, BC food tours are the way to go.
Recently, I was invited to take part in a five-hour self-guided food tour of Fort Langley with Chew on This Tasty Tours, the winner of the TripAdvisor’s Travelers’ Choice award for 2023. I not only enjoyed a wonderful foodie journey, but I also learned about Fort Langley’s rich, historic past.
From the vibrant streets of Victoria to the eclectic eateries of Mount Pleasant to the vine-covered hills of the Okanagan, food tours have knowledgeable guides that will lead you on an adventure. Whether you’re a passionate foodie or simply seeking to discover our province’s rich cultural tapestry, food tours are a great way to get a deeper appreciation for our wonderfully diverse metropolises.
P.S. Come with an appetite!
Chew on This Tasty Tours is the brainchild of Lise Hines, owner and culinary experiences curator. Her company was founded during the pandemic as a way to support restauranteurs and keep their doors open. Today, Hines runs six tours, in Fort Langley, Chilliwack, Tofino and more. On the Fort Langley tour, savour high tea with a raisin scone coupled with strawberry preserve and Devonshire cream, a cucumber, beet, dill cream cheese on brioche and more from the Little White House & Co. Then, let Chef Sarah Meconse Mierau’s Tradish, the ancestor café located inside the Fort Langley National Historic Site, tantalize your taste buds with her organic, Indigenous, sustainable lemonades, bannock and jams before sinking your teeth into tasty vegan macaroni and cheese at Grounds & Greens Cafe. You’ll also visit Into Chocolate and go home with a few handcrafted chocolate treats. The tours wraps at Omni Kitchen & Bar for two of its most popular curated cocktails paired with a flight of French fries.
Mount Pleasant Food Tours is the new food tour on the block. Tomer Rockman started his three-hour food tours in April 2024 to provide a distinctive gastronomic adventure through his own ‘hood of Mount Pleasant. A farmer by trade, Rockman’s says he likes to keep a little mystery by keeping the names of the six eateries a surprise until the participants arrive. While diving deep into the history of Mount Pleasant, you’ll enjoy an off-the-beaten-path perspective, where you might indulge in a Malaysian-inspired burger with a craft beer or two. Rockman also offers private tours by appointment.
The Recipient of the Tripadvisor Experience Award:Top 20 Things to Do in Canada and the Tripadvisor Traveler’s Choice Award, Taste Vancouver Food Tours was established by intrepid travelers Doug and Jewel Taylor, out of their love for good food, hospitality and fun entertainment. Specializing in performance-driven food tours run by professional actors, each one features nine stops, six food tastings and two alcoholic tastings (non-alcoholic options available), through either North Vancouver’s Shipyards District and the Lonsdale Quay Market or Gastown. The tours are focused not only on flavours, but also storytelling. Delectable fare might include burger sliders, tacos, chicken wings and artisan ice cream before celebrating with a booze-y toast.
Multiple Best of The Best winner on TripAdvisor and other platforms, A Taste of Victoria food tours was founded by owner Andy Olson nearly a decade ago. An ardent foodie who travelled around the globe taking part in food tours, Olson says he decided Victoria needed its own food tours to celebrate and showcase its fabulous hidden-gem restaurants. His curated two-hour immersive culinary explorations take participants on a flavour-packed journey beginning at the Victoria Public Market at The Hudson. The tour also includes stops at Chinatown’s The Gates of Harmonious Interest, Fan Tan Alley, Market Square, Bastion Square, Trounce Alley, Government St. and the Inner Harbour Causeway. Along the route, there are six local sweet and savoury food tastings, as guides discuss the history and quirks of beautiful Victoria.
Okanagan Foodie Tours is your ticket to a culinary adventure through Kelowna. Nancy Quinton, founder and experience host, started her company a decade ago because she wanted to share her passion for Kelowna and its vibrant foodie culture. Okanagan Foodie Tours highlights local restaurateurs, chefs and service providers. Its exclusive tours take you on a three-hour private tour to terrific restaurants, patios and pubs located in Kelowna’s Downtown and Cultural District. You’ll visit specially selected eateries boasting chef created menus and tantalizing pub cuisine, all served with refreshing thirst-quenching beverages. They also offer specialized experiences for larger groups featuring up-close agri-tourism and farm-to-table dining.
