8 Low or Non-Alcoholic Drinks for Dry January from B.C. Brands

Zero-proof doesn't mean zero fun

Dry January is in full swing. The first month of the year is an ideal time to pause alcohol and reset after all of the holiday merriment of December, and there are an increasing amount of options to sip on, many of which are made by local B.C. brands. Here are eight low or non-alcoholic options—from mocktails to de-alcoholized wine—to bring to your next social gathering during dry January or beyond.

1. Glimmer Wine

Looking for a glass of bubbly without the buzz? Glimmer Wine is a women-owned, women-run de-alcoholized sparkling wine company. Its signature and sustainable 2023 Blanc de Blancs sparkling wine (from $25.99) is made from chardonnay, and is de-alcoholized and bottled in Penticton. A glass of this of these bubbles is fresh and crisp, with hints of fine lemon, fresh green apple and orange blossom.

2. Muse Wine

For a bottle of merlot or rosé (sans alcohol, of course), turn to Muse Wine, crafted in Summerland. Dubbing themselves the “best-tasting non-alcoholic wine in Canada,” Muse’s de-alcoholized wines are vegan, gluten-free and only 25 calories per glass. Choose between the fruit-forward merlot ($18.99) or citrusy rosé ($18.99)—or try both with the brand’s discovery pack deals.

3. DuchessDry

Duchess Cocktails

You can still enjoy a cosmopolitan without the alcohol with DuchessDry from Duchess Cocktails. Made in the brand’s Vancouver factory, the DuchessDry line (from $16) features three zero-proof versions of the brand’s classic cocktail flavours: cosmos, margaritas or lemon drops.

4. Olé Mocktails

For a tropical drink to add some sun to this dark January, turn to Olé Cocktail Co.’s mocktail alternatives. The typically tequila-based drinks come in three mocktails (four-pack for $13.79): grapefruit paloma, lime margarita or chili mango. Originating from Vancouver, B.C., these non-alcoholic beverages are available at retailers across the province.

5. Phillips iOTA Craft Beer

Phillips Brewing was born in 2001 on Vancouver Island. And in 2021, the Victoria-based brand started producing iOTA non-alcoholic beers (four-pack for $8.99) to offer its customers the same craft beer flavour with the alcohol removed. iOTA has five non-alc brews—pilsner, hazy IPA, pale ale, cerveza and peach—available at retailers and online.

6. Nonny Beer

From pilsners to sours, Nonny (four-pack for $12.50) is available at a range of restaurants, bars and retailers throughout the Lower Mainland. Or, order a customized mix-and-match case of beer online to sample the different brews.

7. Lonetree De-Alcoholized Ciders

Enjoy a cider with the same apple flavour, minus alcohol. Lonetree Cider makes a new de-alcoholized version of its dry cider, apple ginger and apple pear flavours (four-pack from $10.99). The B.C. cider is made from B.C. apples from an old-growth forest, and is naturally gluten-free.

Sip the same flavour of classic spirits like gin or rum—but make it zero-proof. Lumette’s alt-spirits (from $19.99) offer non-alcoholic options to craft creative mocktails with the same flavour profiles, with its Bright Light gin, London dry gin or Lumrum rum. Shop online or at retailers around the province.
