April is BC Wine Month—so here are a few bottles from local wineries to savour this spring

The approaching patio season means flocking to the outdoors to savour any time in warmer and sunnier weather. One of the best parts? Sitting and people-watching while sipping on some local vino: it is officially BC Wine Month, after all. From bottles of bubbly to refreshing reds, these spring wines from B.C. makers are sure to please, regardless of whether you spend April-May-June indoors or out.

1. River Stone Estate Winery’s Good Neighbours Albariño 2025

This aromatic 2025 albariño from River Stone Estate Winery in Oliver, B.C., is made with fruit from Washington (2024 was a tough grape-growing year in the Okanagan), and blends two different batches of ferments. This white is just asking to be sipped out in the spring sun, with notes of juicy ripe peach, melon and pineapple. The crisp acidity also pairs well with seafood and lighter spring fare. Try it at River Stone’s tasting room or order it at $31.90 a bottle.

2. Blasted Church’s Big Bang Theory 2024

The deep ruby red blend that is the 2024 Big Bang Theory from Blasted Church is easy to enjoy in the warm weather. This juicy, yet rich, fruit-forward wine blends notes of plum, dark berries, cherries, floral, vanilla and chocolate. The Big Bang Theory is also a versatile wine, pairing well with pastas, pizzas and red meats, making a great accompaniment to a patio dinner. Order it for $26 a bottle, or try it at the Okanagan Valley winery’s tasting room, which opens on April 3.

3. Adega on 45th’s 2025 Espumante

Add some sparkle to your spring with the new 2025 Espumante from Adega on 45th in Osoyoos. This lightly sparkling bottle has notes of apricot, nectarine, lychee and mandarin. It has an off-dry impression that’s balanced by sauvignon blanc’s crisp acidity, with silkiness from viognier, and depth from subtle strawberry and watermelon hints of the white merlot and pinot noir. A glass of this bright and refreshing espumante is well-suited to aperitif hour. Order a bottle for $24.99.

4. Domaine Artema’s Gamay Cru 2022

The 2022 Gamay Cru from the newly established Okanagan Winery, Domaine Artema, offers subtle savoury flavours for spring. With leading aromas and flavours of black currants, raisins and black cherry, this light to medium-bodied red has a back palate reminiscent of dried fruit leathers and bacon fat. Order a bottle for $54.90 to try a varietal—gamay—that’s still uncommon in the region.

5. Kismet Estate Winery’s Phulkari Rosé

With the 2024 bottle having won Double Gold last year at the 2025 All Canadian Wine Championships and the WineAlign National Wine Awards of Canada, the Phulkari Rosé from Kismet Estate Winery is making a comeback. The wine is inspired by the Punjabi word, phulkari, meaning “floral embroidery.” With notes of strawberry, watermelon and florals, this bright rosé sings spring. Pre-order the bottle here (which sold out last year) for $29.99.

6. Castoro de Oro Winery’s Heart of Gold

The Heart of Gold white from Castoro de Oro is light, dry, fruit-forward and has a playful hint of cotton candy on the finish, blending pinot blanc, vidal, siegfried and viognier. The Fairmont Hotel MacDonald in Edmonton also named Heart of Gold a centennial wine to celebrate the hotel’s 100th anniversary. With a canned version, this wine is portable for picnics, patios or backyard get-togethers. Purchase the Heart of Gold cans or bottles in Castoro de Oro’s wine shop, at private liquor stores or online.

7. Culmina Family Estate Winery’s N° 020 Perle de Rosé

Culmina Estate Winery is entering the world of sparkling wines. This Perle de Rosé blends merlot and cabernet franc, offering a lively, fresh profile.
