B.C. Bucket List: Experience the Canyon Lights at Capilano Suspension Bridge

Experience: Canyon Lights at Capilano Suspension Bridge

Bucket list factor: This is a winter tradition for many Vancouverites (for good reason), so if a visit to Capilano’s Canyon Lights isn’t on your holiday must-do list, then bump it up to the top right away. The world-famous suspension bridge, which is lit end to end with a changing multi-colour display, allows you to gaze down at the Capilano River below before journeying into the illuminated rainforest. There’s just something completely fairytale-like about a forest full of twinkling lights, and if you’re in need of a little festive spirit, exploring the shimmering  thicket adds to the magic of the season.

Walk high above the forest floor on Treetops Adventure’s seven suspended bridges; wind your way through the mesmerizing “Arc de Lumina” light tunnel, which wraps along a portion of Cliffwalk; take part in the Snowy Owl Prowl scavenger hunt; and snap pics at one of the many Instagram-worthy photo opportunities. At your final stop, warm up and grab a hot chocolate while finding the perfect gift in the Trading Post Gift Store, all while listening to live festive tunes. Big or small, there’s something for everyone.

Need to know before you go:

• Capilano Suspension Bridge is open rain or shine, so be sure to dress for the weather. Walkways may be slippery when wet, so it doesn’t hurt to wear boots with good grip. 
• Children and youth must be accompanied by a person 17 years or over.
• Good dogs on leashes are permitted in the park.
• Due to the nature of these attractions, the Suspension Bridge, Treetops Adventure and Cliffwalk are not wheelchair accessible.
• It takes around 2.5 to 3 hours to explore the park. 
• There is a free shuttle with the main pick-up location at Canada Place.

Canyon Lights also supports BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund with partial proceeds from admissions donated to fire and burn education in schools throughout British Columbia. To date, Canyon Lights has donated over $410,000 to this worthy program. Admissions also help Capilano continue to host the Twelve Nights of Christmas, offering passes to local charities.

Capilano Suspension Bridge’s seasonal holiday event runs now until January 22. Tickets start from $24.95 (6-12 years) up to $62.95 (18-64 years). If you are a British Columbia resident, enjoy admission for one full year from date of purchase for the price of one day’s regular admission, including special events such as Canyon Lights and Love Lights. Park Hours are from11 a.m. to 9 p.m. (closed Christmas Day).
