Spring is all about enhancing your natural hair for a fresh new vibe
Award-winning stylist Vicky Han from Suki’s Salon shares expert tips on how to select the right colours and cuts to frame your features, plus ways to maintain healthy locks all year round.
Here’s how to have good hair days all spring long…
VH: Warm blonde is quickly becoming one of the most popular colours this season! It’s a bit more natural looking than the ashy and whiter blondes that have been popular the past few years. If you are not ready for a huge transformation, a subtle ombré is a good choice as it will change up your tone, but still blend well with (and enhance) your natural colour.
VH: The best (and easiest) way to get textured curls is by using a curling iron or a flat iron. When curling, alternate directions of the curl and work with different amounts of hair to ensure that the curls aren’t too even. Once your whole head is curled, run your fingers through the curls to break them up. Add extra texture and keep those curls intact with a product like the Shu Uemura Texture Wave Hair Spray or the L’Oreal Chignon Hair Spray. Another fave is Bumble and Bumble’s Surf Spray. Use this product if you’re starting with wet hair. Pro tip: this look works great with second-day hair!
VH: Not too short, not too long, the lob is still super-popular right now! A low-maintenance style, you can let it grow out for a while before going in for a cut. Universally flattering, most people can pull this look off as it works with most face shapes and hair types.
VH: You bet! Bangs are going to be huge this year, and there are a lot of variations ahead. But one of the most popular styles is the curtain fringe. Soft, long and tapered, it works for every texture and length.
VH: Bows are huge right now! There are some great ponytail accessories with bows on them that help to elevate even the simplest of look. For a more formal look, small white pearls on pins and thin rhinestone headbands are a great way to add a touch of elegance. For simple hairstyles, you can’t go wrong with a ponytail with a twist, a low knot, top bun, wavy bob or messy bun.
VH: Natural, buttery blonde is going to be the colour for blondes this summer, as well as subtle ombre colours for brunettes. Summer is all about enhancing your natural texture, so take care of your hair now and try to restore some of the damage that the cold weather and heat tools have done so that hair will look healthier in the summer.
