Eyebrow Lamination: The Latest Trend Taking the Beauty World by Storm

While methods like microblading are great as a semi-permanent solution and eye pencils/gels provide temporarily thicker looking brows, lamination seems to be the happy medium between what’s costly, pain-free and time-consuming.

So, what exactly is eyebrow lamination?

Originating in Russia, and recently making its away across the UK and North America, brow lamination is a semi-permanent, non-invasive (zero needles used here) method that essentially redirects the hairs upwards to cover sparse areas and create a fuller, more defined look. The term “lamination” comes from the shiny and slicked-up effect the procedure gives you.

Depending on the hair texture, a lifting solution is applied for up to 10 minutes. This solution allows the technician to sculpt and shape the brows into the desired shape. A “fixing” solution is then applied to set the hairs in place. If needed, a tint can be added at this point and a brow artist will trim any long hairs. A nourishing treatment is then added to the brows to replenish their moisture and seal the hairs—it’s like a keratin treatment for your brows.

It’s recommended that no water, cleanser or makeup remover should touch the brows between 24 and 48 hours after as they need time to properly set. However, brushing your newly laminated brows is encouraged in case hairs are moved out of place after treatment.

How long does eyebrow lamination last?

Your brows will stay in place for five to eight weeks, depending on the type of hair you have. Thicker hair should last the full eight weeks, while fine hairs may actually last up to 10. The longevity of the lamination can also depend on the aftercare. Thankfully, it fades out uniformly and naturally, so you don’t have to worry about having patchy looking eyebrows in between appointments.

Are there any side effects?

Brow lamination should not harm your actual eyebrow hairs, but as with any cosmetic procedure, solutions can irritate your eye area so it’s important to do your own research. Those with allergies or previous reactions to dyes and chemicals should always consult with a technician before committing to treatment.
