Q: We live in Harrison Hot Springs in the Lower Mainland. Last year our blue fescue grasses nearly died from too much snow and rain. This fall I potted them up in gallon pots and put them in the greenhouse. They look good, but very green! Is there anything I can do to make them more blue?
I think this maybe an age and stress condition.
Usually after stress, plants will revert to a juvenile condition in order to repair themselves and set roots out. The blue colouring of fescue is usually a maturity event due to the waxes exuded onto the leaves. These waxes help protect against cold and dry conditions.
In any event, keep the plants well watered and well fed and gently acclimatize them to the outside and the blue should return.
