Portmeirion designer Susan Williams-Ellis chose a blue hydrangea to mark the 40th anniversary of the celebrated tableware.
Part of the Botanic Garden range, the hydrangea is one of many floral designs originally inspired by the colourful illustrations in an 1817 book, The Universal Herbal, by Thomas Green. Williams-Ellis discovered the book that inspired the now-iconic tableware on a visit to a London antiquarian bookseller in the 1970s. Atkinsons
