From ivory cushions to fairy lights, here are some of this spring's hottest patio trends
With warmer temperatures and sunny weather approaching, there’s something we can all look forward to: patio season! Let’s face it, who isn’t counting down the days to enjoying drinks, treats and good conversation al fresco? If you’re looking to redecorate your patio this spring, look no further.
We’ve got the scoop on how to turn your backyard or patio into the perfect spring oasis…
Pastel colours like pink, green and purple come to mind when we think of spring. But this year, why not go with something a little different? A popular trend this season is white. Canadian Tire’s CANVAS collection features a range of stylish furniture and accessories. For maximum impact, the new CANVAS Tofino collection in soft shades of wheat and ivory helps channel luxury resort style, says Canadian Tire design expert Tracy Platt. Additionally, using white marble flatware and dinnerware is another great way to incorporate this trend.
Cushions are a must-have patio accessory, especially for spring. It’s no surprise that choices are plentiful when it comes to choosing cushions, but when shopping for outdoor furniture, the key is to combine style and functionality. Shopping for locally sourced products is always a great way to go. These cushions from Vancouver’s own Pillow Fight Factory (pictured left) feature fun, quirky prints in a range of colours and styles. As an additional bonus, every pillow is made using waterproof fabric, making them a perfect outdoor accessory. Alternatively, feel free to play it simple and classic with these Aviva striped toss cushions (pictured right) from Urban Barn.
No patio would be complete without proper lighting. If you want to give your patio an ethereal evening glow, string lights and solar chandeliers are good place to start. For a contemporary look, opt for these CANVAS Brooklyn Outdoor String lights. If you’re looking for something more bold and different, these Moravian Star Solar Pendants (pictured) are the perfect alternative to get that magical feel.
Another patio trend this season is metallic. Whether your metal of choice is silver, gold or copper—or a mix of more than one—metallic accents can give your space a designer vibe, says Platt, My favourite new item is our Marrakech nesting tables styled in hammered gold with just a touch of white for highlight. They add a pop of wow to your space while also being versatile in use. Metallic also makes for great mood lighting, she adds.
