The Red Wagon is back in business with a new interior, extended hours and delicious additions to its menu after a month-long renovation
Renovated Red Wagon 2016
The Red Wagon Cafe, located in the heart of East Vancouver at Hastings and Nanaimo, has officially reopened after closing for renovations at the end of March. Fans of this popular neighbourhood joint will be delighted to know that even though the interior has been rebuilt and refreshed, the soul of the diner remains the same—an important concept for the owner, Brad Miller, who opened the restaurant six years ago with the vision of building a community meeting place.
“I want to give people a place to hang their hat at night as well as during the day. Somewhere they can enjoy a perfectly prepared omlette and a well-executed gin and tonic.”
With the neighbourhood modernizing, Miller decided it was the right time to give the cafe a new look. The room has been painted, a proper bar is now in place of the old lunch counter, new light fixtures have been hung and the floor has been replaced with slick black-and-white checkers.
Delicious new items have been added to the menu, along with popular fan favourites like The D.L.T sandwich (duck, lettuce, and tomato), pulled pork pancakes, the Pemberton Meadows beef burger and the tofu scramble. And if your mouth isn’t watering enough already, brunch is now available all day long, seven days a week.
On top of that, bar snacks like meat loaf with corn bread and pork belly will also be served daily after 5 p.m. Keeping the commitment of supporting local companies, an updated drinks menu features tonics and gins from Vancouver Island’s Phillips Soda as well as craft beers from Strange Fellows Brewing and Powell Street Brewery.
Late-night cravings? The Red Wagon Cafe will now be open until midnight from Wednesday to Sunday. So if you’re ever in the area, you know exactly where to satisfy your classic, comfort food needs.
