Whether it's brunch, lunch or dinner, Vancouver's finest restaurants are cooking up some special delights for Mom this year
Is Mom a seafood fan? Treat her to an indulgent evening at Miku restaurant and order up a delicious Mother’s Day Sashimi Platter ($45), featuring a chef’s selection of premium sashimi and seafood. For dessert, Miku’s head pastry chef Chris Janik has created a special Rhubarb Strawberry Galette ($15) with lemongrass ginger reduction and Madagascar vanilla ice cream. View the full menu here. Miku’s sister restaurant, Minami is another great choice for the seafood-loving mom. For dinner, they are also offering the Mother’s Day Sashimi Platter ($40) and, for dessert, a delicious Lemon Brûlée Tart with blueberry lavender cream, Aburi meringue and toasted marshmallow ice cream. Or treat mom to lunch with the Mother’s Day Premium Zen, featuring eight seasonal kobachi items, signature Aburi Sushi, and dessert. Check out the full menu here. Cibo Trattoria is offering up an authentic Italian-style brunch and a special dinner menu on Sunday, May 13th. The brunch features include Ricotta Gnocchetti, Prosciutto and Mascarpone Ravioli, and Seared Albacore Tuna, in addition to its daily selection of rustic, sweet and savoury dishes. From 5 p.m. onwards, guests are invited to enjoy a four-course set menu of regionally inspired Italian cuisine for $65 per person, plus tax and gratuity, in addition to the restaurant’s regular à-la-carte menu offerings. Does Mom love a good cocktail? Café Medina is stirring up the ‘Lady Bradford’ for Mother’s Day, made with vodka, lime, watermelon juice, elderflower liqueur, soda and garnished with a slice of watermelon and fresh mint leaves. The perfect complement to brunch, the drink is available for $8 on Mother’s Day, along with $8 glasses of Unsworth Vineyards Rosé.
This one is a win-win for moms. Treat her to brunch while supporting a wonderful cause. Starting at 10 a.m., partial food proceeds of Mother’s Day brunch at Joe Fortes will be donated to Sheway, a Pregnancy Outreach Program (P.O.P.) located in the Downtown Eastside. The program provides health and social service supports to pregnant women and women with infants who are dealing with drug and alcohol issues.
On Saturday, May 12th and Sunday, May 13th, Juke Fried Chicken is offering up its regular brunch menu, as well as a Mother’s Day feature that includes an orange or grapefruit Juke mimosa, two waffles, two pieces of Juke’s signature crispy, southern-style fried chicken and a gift-wrapped package of house-made Juke hot sauce for $27 per person. To help families plan for the occasion, the Chinatown chicken-and-rib mainstay will offer limited reservations that weekend only with seating times between 10 and 10:45 a.m.
Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar will host special brunch and dinner buffet services in honour of Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 13th. Boulevard’s brunch buffet will offer an array of house-baked pastries, fresh salads and fruit, artisanal charcuterie and cheeses and classic dishes like Eggs Benedict and Nutella French Toast, as well as seafood specialties such as Smoked Steelhead Trout, Albacore Tuna Tataki and Pacific White Shrimp. Exclusively for brunch, Boulevard will also roll out its Mimosa Trolley service, offering a selection of sparkling wines, fresh juice and fruit served tableside.
The dinner buffet will feature local fare from land and sea, including carving stations featuring Prime Striploin, Roasted Leg of Lamb and BLVD Porchetta, Pan-Crisped Steelhead Trout, West Coast Paella, Smoked Sablefish, and Clam Chowder in addition to a sweet selection of desserts by Pastry Chef Kenta Takahashi. Both brunch and dinner buffets are available for $80 per adult plus tax and gratuity, and $35 for children between ages three and 12. Reservations are recommended.
Impress Mom by taking her to one of the hottest new seafood spots in town. On Saturday, May 12th and Sunday, May 13th, bar manager Katie Ingram will be mixing up a special feature cocktail. An elegant twist on the classic Aperol Spritz, Ingram’s Mazu Spritz ($10) is named after the Chinese goddess of the sea and protector of seafarers. The orange-hued libation is a citrus-forward mix of Aperol, Fino sherry, Lillet blanc, Lemon, Cava, Bittered sling orange and juniper bitters. Reservations are recommended.
Take Mom out for a tasty treat at Gyoza Bar and try out the special menu for two, mom edition. The feature includes your choice of small plate, 12-piece gyoza, bao board, a beverage and an exclusive Mother’s Day dessert platter. Check out the full menu here. Gastown’s L’Abattoir is offering an exclusive Bubbles at Brunch service from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A select list of champagne and sparkling wines will be available at special pricing to complement the French-meets-West-Coast menu. Reservations are recommended.
What better way to toast Mom on her special day than with a celebratory sparkling cocktail? The aptly named ‘Mamacita’ cocktail at Wildebeest offers a palate-pleasing blend of sparkling wine, lingonberry, dark rum, sherry and cinnamon. The pink drink pairs perfectly with the Gastown hotspot’s daytime lineup of sweet and savoury brunch dishes. Reservations are recommended.
