The Pie Hole's Jenell Parsons shares one of her favourite holiday pie recipes
We all know that the festive season means an excuse to bake something delicious that will have your home feeling cozy and your guests delighted. So we invited Jenell Parsons, owner of The Pie Hole, to share one of her favourite holiday pie recipes with us.
Try your hand at making it at home, but if you’d rather leave it to the pros (we don’t blame you!), The Pie Hole has a hefty selection of holiday pies to order for your holiday entertaining, too!
Use your favourite pie crust recipe or a store-bought crust.
Prepare your pie shell by pricking the bottom of the shell with a fork. This is called docking and will allow the heat to escape while baking and prevent the bottom from forming bubbles.
Flute the edges of your pie crust to create a nice design. Gently brush the edges with an egg wash. This will give a beautiful golden colour while baking.
Put the prepared pie shell on a parchment lined baking sheet (this saves your oven since butter pecan can bubble over sometimes!) and fill with the pecan filling. Carefully place on the center rack in your oven.
Bake for 45 to 50 mins. When it’s done, the edges will look set and firm and the centre will remain slightly jiggly. Allow to cool completely before serving.
Slice and serve with a generous dollop of whipped cream or scoop of ice cream!
Yield: one 9 pie
